2026: We will uphold our Legislative Mandate with Vigor, Unity of Purpose – AKHA Speaker

The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Udeme Otong, has assured that the Legislature will approach 2026 with renewed commitment, unity of purpose and dedication to its constitutional responsibilities.

He gave the assurance in his Christmas and New Year address at the final plenary session of the House for 2025, held at the Legislative Chamber of the Assembly on December 30.

Speaker Otong, expressed deep gratitude to God for His protection and guidance over the Assembly and Akwa Ibom State throughout the year, noting that the Christmas season provides an opportunity for sober reflection on values such as love, sacrifice, humility and service, which underpin democratic governance.

“Looking ahead to the New Year 2026, I am confident that this House will keep upholding its legislative mandate with renewed vigor, wisdom, and unity of purpose. The expectations of our people are high, and we must remain steadfast in delivering laws and policies that will deepen development, improve livelihoods, and secure a prosperous future for Akwa Ibom State”, he said.

He described 2025 as a year of purposeful legislative engagement, during which the House diligently enacted laws, passed resolutions and carried out oversight functions aimed at strengthening governance, promoting accountability and advancing the socio-economic development of the state.

The Speaker, commended members for their patriotism and commitment to duty, particularly applauding constituency briefings, empowerment programmes and other people-oriented interventions carried out by lawmakers, while urging them to scale up such initiatives in 2026.

Elder Otong, also lauded the cordial working relationship between the Legislature and the Executive, attributing the prevailing atmosphere of stability and good governance in the state to the purposeful leadership of Governor Umo Eno (PhD) and sustained inter-arm cooperation.

The Speaker, urged lawmakers to promote peace, unity and compassion in their constituencies, while renewing their dedication to integrity, selfless service and the collective interest of their Constituents above personal considerations.

Speaker Otong, expressed confidence that the House would uphold its legislative mandate with renewed vigor and wisdom, noting that the expectations of Akwa Ibom people remain high for laws and policies that will deepen development, improve livelihoods and secure a prosperous future.

He concluded by extending warm Christmas greetings and best wishes for a peaceful, healthy and prosperous New Year to all Akwa Ibom people, expressing optimism that 2026 will usher in renewed hope, greater achievements and enduring peace for the state and the nation
