Afigh Iwaad Ekid Lauds Governor Eno for Sustaining and Enhancing Christmas Unplugged

The leadership of Afigh Iwaad Ekid has commended the Governor for sustaining and further enhancing the annual Christmas Unplugged celebration, describing it as a cultural renaissance that has repositioned Akwa Ibom on the festive tourism map.

The President General of the foremost sociocultural youth organization, Obongiwaad (Capt.) Willie Mbong, gave the commendation on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, during the Eket Day celebration at Christmas Unplugged 3.0.

Speaking during an interview, he applauded the Governor’s commitment to improving the event each year, noting that Christmas Unplugged has evolved into a major attraction that now rivals and surpasses previous cultural spectacles in the region.

“For many years, the Calabar Carnival held massive attention across the state. Today, Christmas Unplugged has become the preferred destination for holiday tourism and cultural expression,” he stated.

Highlighting Eket’s rich cultural heritage, he described the area as distinct, with a proudly preserved identity that justifies its age long nickname, Idung Mfia Anwe “the white man’s land.”

Obongiwaad (Capt.) Willie Mbong reaffirmed the group’s commitment to community development, emphasizing that Afigh Iwaad Ekid will continue to partner with the state government to advance the growth and well-being of Ekid communities.
