Eket APC Declares Full Support for Tinubu, Akpabio and Umo Eno as Archibong Says Governor ‘Vindicated’ for Joining APC
By Solomon OKPO | November 23, 2025.
The Dean of Commissioners and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong, says Governor Umo Eno has been fully vindicated for his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting the move has proven both strategic and beneficial for Akwa Ibom State.
Archibong made the assertion on Saturday, November 22, 2025, during an enlarged APC meeting held at Eket City Hall, where party leaders and supporters gathered to deliberate on the political direction of the region.
Speaking to a hall packed with party faithful, Archibong argued that Governor Eno’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was justified, particularly as the opposition party continues to grapple with internal turmoil. He cited the recent PDP meeting in Abuja that reportedly descended into a violent confrontation among party leaders, resulting in police intervention.
“With the crisis rocking the PDP, it is clear that Governor Umo Eno is vindicated. Such chaos is unacceptable to a leader who stands for peace and stability,” he said.
He explained that Governor Eno’s move to the APC has strengthened Akwa Ibom’s connection to the federal government, opening the door to what he described as a new phase of meaningful development. According to him, the governor did not join the ruling party “empty-handed” but brought with him appointments, job opportunities, and other benefits for the people of the state.
Archibong added that the governor’s entry into the APC has revitalized the party, giving members renewed hope and confidence. He also called on party members to foster unity and eliminate divisions between long-standing members and newcomers.
“My appeal is that we come together. We have common ownership of this local government and our state, and the party must reflect the same unity. Gone are the days of ‘aborigines’ and ‘newcomers.’ Everyone will now stand on equal footing,” he said.
The commissioner assured supporters that with the “winning formula” now in the APC, the party is positioned to sweep future elections across Okon, Central, and Urban zones of Eket Local Government Area.
In a unanimous resolution, the APC leadership in Eket, led by Chapter Chairman Akwaukriso Akanimo and party leader Mkpisong Akaniyene Tommey, endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio for second terms in office.
Other prominent speakers at the event included Barr. Assam Assam (SAN), Akwa Ibom NDDC Commissioner Apostle Hon. Abasiandikan Nkono, Commissioner for Sports Elder Paul Bassey, Lady Idy Ekwo, Mr. Victor Edon, Akwa Obonganwan Mandu Abia, and Barr. Ephraim Enembong.
