Humanitarian Affairs Commissioner Hosts A’Ibom-Born De9ja Spirit Talent Hunt 2nd Runner-Up, Chris Eshiet

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, on Monday, November 17, received Akwa Ibom born Mr. Chris Eshiet, the 2nd Runner-up of the just-concluded De9ja Spirit Talent Hunt 2025.

Welcoming the young talent and his team, at the ministry’s conference room, Uyo, Princess Ibanga expressed gratitude to God for Eshiet’s life and remarkable journey. She described his visually impaired story at age five, yet rising to national recognition, as deeply inspiring and a testament to resilience and determination.

The Commissioner noted that the talent hunt winner achievement reinforces the truth that “No one has any excuse not to become something in life.” She emphasized that nothing should limit an individual’s potential, commending the young artist for seeing beyond his disability and striving for excellence. “Your case struck me,” she said, adding that his success mirrors the limitless abilities present within persons with disabilities.

Princess Ibanga also lauded the Manager of ChrisVic, MC Philip Jimmy, for discovering and nurturing Eshiet’s talent. She stressed that many gifted individuals with disabilities lack platforms to showcase their abilities. She further commended the organisers of the De9JA Spirit Talent Hunt for providing such opportunities, noting that out of 55,000 contestants, only 22 advanced to the final rounds and 3 emerged at the top.

The Commissioner praised Mr. Eshiet for making the State proud and reiterated the ministry’s commitment to supporting him. “This is your ministry; our doors are open. You are one of us. I celebrate you, and the ministry celebrates you,” she added.

Also appreciating the Governor for his unwavering support to the disability community, Princess Ibanga reaffirmed that Akwa Ibom State remains committed to celebrating homegrown talents.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Eno Akpan, congratulated Mr. Eshiet on his exceptional feat, describing it as well-deserved. She noted that he exemplifies the spirit of an Akwa Ibom ambassador, one who refuses to be limited by challenges. She prayed for God’s continued elevation upon his life.

Responding, Mr. Eshiet expressed profound gratitude to the Commissioner and the ministry. He described the reception as an honour and a great motivation for him. He thanked the Commissioner for hosting him and the team despite her busy schedule and birthday, praying for God’s blessings upon her.

Earlier, Mr. Eshiet’s Manager, MC Philip Jimmy, said the visit was to present the young talent officially to the Commissioner and to inform the ministry of existing potentials within the state. He recalled initiating talent development for persons with disabilities four years ago and stated that Mr. Eshiet’s participation in the talent was an affirmation of his belief that gifts deserve recognition on global platforms.
