ISPON advocates for certified personnel to work as Safety Officers

Commends Gov Eno for employment of 100 Occupational Safety Officers

Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, ISPON, has advocated for qualified and certified personnel to be engaged in any establishment as Safety Officers.

The organization also maintained that the only recognized institution by law to train and certify Safety Officers in Nigeria is the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, ISPON, established by an act of the National Assembly.

Speaking at an Interactive Session with media professionals from Eket Federal Constituency in Eket, the State Coordinator of ISPON, Akwa Ibom State Branch, Mr. Ita Benson, maintained that ISPON core mandate is to train, certify and regulate safety related activities in the country.

Benson, disclosed that there are numerous safety related job opportunities especially in the oil and gas sector for only certified personnel, appealing to media practitioners and young people in the oil bearing communities to take advantage of the opportunities by being trained and certified for job placement, stressing that safety jobs are very lucrative.

He noted that there is only one Safety Institute in the State, located along Edet Akpan Avenue where personnel are trained and certified, pointing out that he will work with security operatives to crack down illegal safety outfits in the State.

Benson, further commended Akwa Ibom State Government for the employment of 100 Occupational Safety Officers into the State Civil Service, noting that his continuous advocacy has yielded the expected results, appealing to media professionals to take advantage of the numerous job openings by getting trained and certified by the institute.

In their separate speeches, Enobong Nsima, Joseph Ekong, Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Mfon Bassey, Publisher of Bubbles News, Daniel Edon and Ubong Itama, commended Mr. Ita Benson for the sensitization on safety related issues, promising to disseminate the information to the larger population.

Also speaking, the Personal Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Ubong Creativity David, appealed for discount by the Institute for some media professionals who may be interested in the training. He added that Heritage Radio can serve as a medium to disseminate information about safety to oil bearing communities.
