Nigerian Christian Institute President, Ekemini Mkpong, Dies

The family of Mr. Ekemini Okon Mkpong, President of the Nigerian Christian Institute (NCI), Uyo, has announced his passing.

In a statement posted on the institute’s official Facebook page, the family said Mr. Mkpong passed on peacefully, expressing deep sorrow over the loss while giving thanks to God for what they described as “a life of purpose and impact.”

According to the statement, the late educationist and Christian leader was a devoted father, husband, brother and friend, whose influence and legacy continue to inspire many within and outside the academic and Christian community.

The family noted that it is currently observing a period of private mourning and appealed for understanding, while appreciating the prayers, kindness and support received from well-wishers.

“Details regarding funeral arrangements will be communicated as plans are finalised,” the statement added.

Mr. Mkpong was President of Nigerian Christian Institute, a faith-based educational institution established in 1982 and located in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The institute is widely regarded as a leading centre for Christian education in Nigeria’s South-South region.

NCI operates several arms, including a secondary school established in 1988, a School of Preaching founded in 1982 for training gospel ministers, an Early Learning Centre, and a creche and childcare facility known as Kids ‘R’ Us Children Paradise. The institution is known for its emphasis on academic excellence, discipline, spirituality and character development.

Tributes have continued to pour in from members of the NCI community and the general public, many describing the late Mr. Mkpong as a committed Christian leader who dedicated his life to education, moral instruction and service to humanity.
