NUJ Chairman Bags Media Icon Award

……Dedicates Honour to Journalists

The Nigeria Photographers and Cinematographers Night and Awards (PCINA) have honoured the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, with the prestigious Icon in Media Award.

The award was formally presented recently during the 2025 PCINA Awards Night at Vinpy Event Centre, Udo Udoma Road, Uyo, with the event themed “Shutters of Hope… Inspiring Possibilities.”

Presenting the award to Comrade Nsibiet was a renowned Professor of Marketing Communications, Corporate Communications, Applied Rhetorics, and Semiotics, Professor Peter Esuh.

According to Professor Esuh, Comrade Nsibiet John has distinguished himself as one who has shaped the media and has become a household name not by accident but by a relentless pursuit of the truth and a passion for storytelling.

He further described the NUJ Chairman as a visionary and a leader who has built bridges in the world of communication.

Professor Esuh further noted that Comrade John has distinguished himself through years of consistency, professionalism, and integrity, earning him respect as a household name in the media industry. His work, the organisers maintained, has not only upheld the highest standards of journalism but has also inspired and mentored a new generation of media practitioners through courage, innovation, and advocacy which makes him deserving of the Media Icon Award.

Receiving the award, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Nsibiet John appreciated the organisers of the event for the honour, describing the Icon in Media Award as both humbling and deeply motivating.

He noted that the recognition goes beyond his personal journey, reflecting the collective sacrifices, resilience, and professionalism of journalists and media practitioners who remain committed to truth, ethics, and responsible storytelling.

According to him, in a rapidly changing media environment filled with competing narratives, such recognition reinforces the importance of consistency, credibility, and integrity in the practice of journalism.

He urged practitioners to remain steadfast in upholding professional standards, building bridges across sectors, and amplifying voices that often go unheard.

He dedicated the award to all the journalists in the state who have positively impacted the society through innovative and responsible journalism.
