Pastor Chris Okafor turns himself in over allegation probe

The Lagos State Police Command says the Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Dr. Chris Okafor, has surrendered to investigators following allegations of rape and other offences said to threaten public peace.

Police authorities confirmed that the case has now been transferred to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Sylvester Alabi, for further investigation.

Okafor had reportedly failed to honour an earlier invitation from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, after his lawyers informed the police he would appear on Monday. Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, said when the pastor did not show up, an arrest order was issued — but Okafor later reported himself on Tuesday.

According to the CP, the matter was moved to Zone 2 after it was verified that a similar petition had already been under investigation there for about three weeks.

He explained that complaints circulating on social media were taken seriously because they could escalate into public unrest if ignored.

The controversy surrounding Okafor surfaced in mid-December 2025, after several allegations were shared online. Nollywood actress Doris Ogala accused the cleric of a long-running intimate relationship dating back to 2017, alleging broken promises, leaked explicit materials, and strains on her former marriage.

Amid backlash, Okafor reportedly addressed his church on December 28, 2025, apologising for unspecified “mistakes” and seeking forgiveness at the altar. Reports also indicate that the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria may consider disciplinary action, while the pastor has stepped aside from active ministry pending the outcome of investigations.

Police authorities say security is being provided for the complainants, while inquiries continue at SCID Panti and Zone 2 .
