Skills Acquisition: Engr Abakam Trains 35 Youths in BOSIET, OSP

says training is in line with ARISE Agenda Policy of Governor Umo Eno

The Managing Director of Azimarine and General Services Ltd, Engr. Michael Abakam, has organized a three-day intensive training on BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training) and OSP (Offshore Safety Permit) for 35 youths in Eket Federal Constituency and Akwa Ibom State.

Engr. Abakam disclosed this when he visited the Trainees at the training facility, Alpatech, located along Eket-Ibeno Road.

The over a Million Naira training for each Trainee, covers emergency response, sea survival, firefighting, first aid, and using emergency breathing systems, preparing personnel for real-life hazards in offshore environments through practical exercises, and helicopter underwater escape training (HUET).

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Ibeno born Chemical Engineer, said the training is borne out of his desire to provide life skills for the teeming youths in his constituency and Akwa Ibom State, promised to absorbed them to work at offshore facilities with Azimarine and General Services Limited immediately they completed their training.

“My aim is that within one week all of you should work in the offshore,” said Engr. Abakam.

He maintained that his resolved to train youths in the oil and gas related skills has no correlation with politics, as he is intentional to develop human capacity in line with the ARISE Agenda Policy of Governor Umo Eno.

“It is the wish of the Governor that youth should be employed,” he emphasized.

Engr. Abakam disclosed that the beneficiaries were selected from the four Local Government Areas in Eket Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State, also including non indigenes.

He further appealed to the beneficiaries to take the program seriously by utilising the opportunity provided by the training so as to be useful to themselves, families and the society.

Speaking on behalf of the trainees, Mr. Otuekong Udofia, from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, expressed gratitude to Engr. Abakam for considering them to undergo such expensive training, noting that they will be equipped with valuable skills in the oil and gas sector.

He prayed to God to grant Engr. Abakam the zeal to continue doing more for the people of Eket Federal Constituency and Akwa Ibom State in general.

Accompanied Engr. Abakam to the training facility were HSE Manager of Azimarine and General Services Ltd, Mr. Joseph Etangnkanga, among others.
