Udobia Flags Off Second Edition of Annual Schools Challenge in Constituency

as qualifying schools warm up for grand finale

The Inter-Secondary School Quiz Competition featuring schools from Esit Eket and Ibeno Local Government Areas was held simultaneously at Secondary School, Edo in Esit Eket LGA and Government Secondary Grammar School, Ibeno, marking the qualifying stage of the contest.

The initiative is sponsored by Hon. (Engr.) Udobia Friday Udo, Member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Speaking on the motivation behind the programme, the lawmaker described the competition as a strategic and saleable idea designed to set the pace for young learners and prepare them for future academic excellence.

Udobia, who was represented by the Supervisor for Education and Information in Esit Eket LGA, Holyfield Umoyo, encouraged the students to embrace education as the key to unlocking their success.

According to him, “This initiative aligns with the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno. As a lawmaker closely connected to the grassroots, I consider it highly important to groom and encourage the academic advancement of our young people to secure their future.”

In their welcome remarks, the Principal of Secondary School, Edo, Mr Eduok and his Government Grammar School, Ibeno counterpart, Pastor Tom Afia commended the sponsor for investing in the future of young leaders. They applauded him for taking the lead in nurturing students along the right path and prioritizing their intellectual development.

All participating students also expressed gratitude to the state lawmaker for his love, visionary leadership, and commitment to educational empowerment and capacity building.

In his closing remarks, the Secretary of Esit Eket LGA, Comrade Godwin Elijah, thanked the students and congratulated them for participating and daring to improve their learning skills. He noted that Udobia is practically bridging educational gaps, spotlighting hidden talents, and giving students opportunities to compete, excel, and dream big.

In Esit Eket, five secondary schools participated in the qualifying stage: Union Technical College, Ikpa; Eket Modern High School, Epeneobo; Secondary School, Edo; Community Secondary School, Akpautong; and National High School, Etebi. At the end of the round, Eket Modern High School and Union Technical College emerged in 1st and 2nd positions respectively.

The Quiz Master, Mr. Imoh Edoho, who structured the competition into two sections, English Language and Sciences. Each school was required to answer a total of 20 questions, drawn equally from both sections.

At the grand finale which is billed for Thursday 20th, November, 2025 at Secondary Grammar School, Upenekang, students will go home with the following prizes alongside educational materials: 1st Prize: ₦500,000, 2nd Prize: ₦300,000 and 3rd Prize: ₦200,000

The event also featured a brain-teasing session, courtesy of Mr. Emmanuel Akpekong, where Wisdom David Etuk provided the correct answer and received a ₦10,000 cash prize.

In a similar development, participating schools in Ibeno had 5 Secondary Schools namely, Absolute Success Secondary School Iwuoachang, Bright Light Secondary School Iwuoachang, Destiny Seed Academy Nkpanak, Greater Ibeno All Stars Schools Upenekang, and Secondary Grammar School Upenekang.

At the end of the qualifying stage, Secondary Grammar School Upenekang and Absolute Success Secondary School Iwuoachang came top with 1st and 2nd position respectively, and will face their Esit Eket counterparts in the Grand Finale.
