Excitement and relief now sweep across the Local Government Area as residents prepare to witness the birth of the first truly functional general hospital in the area since the creation of Ukanafun in 1976.

Although the project was initiated in 2009 as a cottage health facility, it is Governor Umo Eno who revived, upgraded, completed, and delivered the facility, making the decades-long dream of quality secondary healthcare facility a reality for the people.

“As you can see, everyone is busy cleaning and setting up. The place is lively,” he said.
“Economically and socially, this hospital is number one for our people and those in nearby communities. We thank God that the hospital has come alive today, courtesy of Governor Umo Bassey Eno.”

Prince Ukpana praised Governor Eno for delivering a world-standard medical facility fully fitted with oxygen wall units, 62 beds, maternity units pharmacy, diagnostic centre, and residential quarters for medical staff, all supported by uninterrupted power supply through solar installations and two backup generators.

“Everything in a standard general hospital is here including solar-powered electricity. Kudos to the Governor. May God give him long life to do more for Ukanafun.”

Beyond the hospital, the Chairman highlighted other impactful government interventions in the area, including appointments to indigenes into mainstream governance, Compassionate Homes, reticulated water projects, model primary school and improved road networks around the hospital.

“As Chairman of Ukanafun, I am proud to say that we are beneficiaries of the Governor’s compassion. Ukanafun people will come out en masse tomorrow to receive him and thank him for this hospital and everything else he has done.”

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of Ukanafun, Hon. Aniekan Owen, expressed profound gratitude to the Governor, describing the new hospital as a historic structure that will greatly benefit pregnant women and nursing mothers. She recalled that for more than six decades, women in the area had to travel to Abak or Uyo for medical attention.

“Thank God for Pastor Umo Bassey Eno for this great edifice. It will serve Ukanafun and all surrounding communities. Our people will no longer suffer for basic healthcare.”

On his part, the
Community Liaison Officer, Mr. Prince, also conveyed the community’s appreciation to the Governor, recalling the period when the area struggled with insecurity and poor infrastructure. He noted that the Governor’s intervention in restoring peace and bringing development has transformed Ukanafun into a thriving community.
