Burial Committee for Late Obongiwaad Emman Mbong Inaugurated

…as Funeral Holds November 7

The Central Planning Committee (CPC) for the funeral of late Obongiwaad Emman Mbong, an outstanding community leader and political stakeholder in Eket and Akwa Ibom State, has been inaugurated, with the Executive Chairman of Eket LGA, Mkpisong Akaniyene Tommey, as Chairman.

The inauguration took place today at the Okon Mbong family compound, No. 70 Atabong Road, Eket LGA.

According to the CPC Chairman, Elder Emman Sammy will serve as Secretary, while Mkpisong Frank Archibong will serve as Chairman, Venue Committee, and Mr. Monday Akanimo as Chairman, Entertainment and Drinks Committee, adding that other members will be constituted shortly.

Setting the tone for the inaugural meeting, Mkpisong Frank Archibong described the demise of Obongiwaad Emman Mbong as devastating and unthinkable.

“It is a great loss to all of us in Eket and Akwa Ibom. It is sad that we are not gathering for his birthday or any other celebration, but to plan his burial. I don’t know how to face this hard truth, but it has knocked heavily on our doors.”

He described the deceased as a strong pillar of Ekid Nation, a great community builder and astute politician who was the Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State. He added that his contributions to the development and unity of the community will remain evergreen.

Archibong charged members of the committee to approach their responsibilities with dedication and sacrifice, stressing that their participation is a voluntary service in honour of the late Obongiwaad and in support of the bereaved family.

“We all have to be selfless to give Emman Mbong what is always described as a befitting burial, because he would do same for anybody,” Archibong pleaded.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Captain Willie Mbong expressed appreciation to members of the committee for honouring the family’s invitation and for standing with them in this difficult period of grief.

In their goodwill messages, Pastor Isaiah Abia, Pastor Ita Udoh, Dr. Eunice Thomas, Dr. Nsidibe Akata, Elder Paul Bassey, Dr. David Lawrence, Akwaobonganwan Mandu Abia and Isantim Kenneth Okon, among others, paid glowing tributes to the deceased.

They described Obongiwaad Emman Mbong as a community builder, great mixer and peaceful personality, whose life and service contributed significantly to the unity, progress and development of Ekid Nation and Akwa Ibom State.

They noted that his death has created a vacuum in the community, while urging the family to draw strength from his legacies of service, friendship and commitment to community development.

The committee also observed a minute’s silence in honour of the deceased.

The meeting was attended by prominent personalities, including Elder Paul Bassey, Commissioner for Sports; Her Majesty, Akwaobonganwan Mandu Abia; and Mrs. Joy Ekanem, Leader of the Eket Legislative Council

Others who attended the meeting were, Mrs Stella Mbong, wife of the deceased, Dr Tommy Enodien, Mr David Ekaette, Engineer Edon Odungide, Elder Inyang Johnny, Eket APC Chapter Chairman, Mr Victor Edon, APC Senatorial Chairman, Comrade Mfon Bassey, SA to the Governor on Media, Mr Enobong Nsimah, Chairman EFCMP, councillors, supervisors, party stakeholders, friends and family members

The funeral service for the late Obongiwaad Emman Mbong is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026.
