Gov. Eno Announces Five-Year Development Plan, Tightens Environmental Enforcement, Says Free Airport Internet Ready Soon

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced that the state government is finalising a comprehensive five-year development plan to provide a strategic framework for sustainable growth and policy implementation.

The Governor also disclosed that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is expected to pay an official visit to Akwa Ibom in September to commission completed projects, adding that details of the visit would be made public in due course.

Governor Eno made the announcements on Saturday during the Akwa Ibom State Government House Monthly Prayer Service held at the Latter House Chapel, Government House, Uyo.

Addressing worshippers, the Governor expressed gratitude to God for what he described as a “new name” for Akwa Ibom State, praying for divine sustenance as the state continues on its path of growth and development.

On environmental issues, Governor Eno cautioned residents against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drainage channels, describing flash flooding as a natural occurrence that requires both government intervention and citizens’ cooperation.

He disclosed that the state government would review its flood control strategy later in the day to strengthen its response to flooding, while reiterating the need for strict compliance with the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

The Governor warned that anyone found violating the state’s environmental sanitation laws would be prosecuted and sentenced to community service, urging all residents to join hands in keeping Akwa Ibom clean.

Governor Eno further announced that full free internet service would soon commence at the Victor Attah International Airport as part of the administration’s efforts to improve public services and strengthen digital infrastructure.

Speaking on the administration’s social welfare programme, he said the ongoing food distribution exercise across the 31 local government areas was being implemented through the state’s Social Register. He added that the Ministry of Economic Planning would soon commence an update of the register to capture more vulnerable residents.

The Governor thanked the people of Akwa Ibom for their continued support, prayers and constructive counsel, noting that their cooperation had contributed significantly to the peace, growth and progress being recorded across the state.

Earlier in his homily, Pastor Emmanuel Bassey preached on the theme, “Divine Rechristening,” drawn from Isaiah 62:4, urging Akwa Ibom people to renew their commitment to the state and embrace God’s purpose for its transformation.

He prayed that Akwa Ibom would attain greater heights, stressing that divine revelation would take the state to the next level, and called on worshippers to surrender their lives to Christ for spiritual repositioning and “divine rechristening.”

The monthly prayer service featured choir ministrations and intercessory prayers for the state, its leadership, ongoing projects and the successful completion of developmental initiatives.
