14 year old female student raped on her way back from school

…private part damaged, girl seriously traumatized

14 year old female student (name withheld) of St Francis Secondary School, Ikot Ataku in Eket Local Government Area has been raped by unknown assailant on her way back from school last week Friday.

According to the story as narrated by a neighbour, Grace Udo, the said girl who has speech impairment engaged her that Friday but she didn’t understood her very well. It was after then that the Aunty briefed her that the girl was raped and has serious wound on her private part and couldn’t sit well.

Grace said she couldn’t bear it hence she went to find out and the girl narrated that a man, fair in completion carried her on his shoulder and entered the nearby bush, raped her repeatedly. Asked if she knows the person, she responded that she doesn’t know him but can identify him if seen anywhere.

According to the story, the incident was reported at Eket Police Division by the victim aunt, Mrs Endurance Etim Robert and she was referred to Immanuel Hospital Eket for emergency treatment. Since Friday that the incident took place, no medical attention was given to the girl because of non availability of fund.

Being disturbed about the girl’s plight, Grace decided to share the story with this writer yesterday night and we agreed to meet today at Immanuel Hospital where the girl has been given urgent medical attention.

According to Manager of Agape Center, Mrs. Mfonkan Ukemeabasi Henry, who admitted the girl before being directed to the Doctor, the girl private part has been seriously damaged and expanded as if she just gave birth.

Mrs. Henry said the need to conduct several test on the girl including pregnancy test, HIV test, among others.

Speaking further on the issue, the victim aunt said the girl is living with her at Ikot Abia, that both parent died, and she took niece to stay with her and sent her to school. She lamented why a man will be that wicked to rape an underage girl, wounded her everywhere.

She was of the opinion that the assailant might be monitoring the girl movement from house to school, hence he decided to strike on a rainy day that she cannot raise alarm to the hearing of anyone. She appealed for government to thoroughly investigate the case and bring the culprit to book.

Corroborating what Mrs. Henry has said earlier, Grace Udo, maintained that the assailant is not going far from the area and may likely strike again, calling on Police to monitor the area so as to get him arrested to stand trial for this heinous crime against the girl child and humanity.

As at the time of filing this report, the girl is still in the hospital but seriously traumatized.
