UPDATE: IDUA ROAD CAVES IN 5 DAYS AFTER EFCMP ALERT

Barely five days after the Eket Federal Constituency Media Professionals (EFCMP) raised the alarm over the imminent collapse of Idua Road by All-Weather School, Eket, the road has caved in following the recent heavy downpour.

Confirming the development today, 29th September, 2026, the Chairman of EFCMP, Comr. Enobong Nsima, said the failed portion has partially collapsed, leaving a deep crater that poses grave danger to motorists, pedestrians and schoolchildren.

A visit to the scene showed the edges of the collapsed portion breaking off, with no warning signs or barricades mounted to caution unsuspecting road users, particularly at night.

Residents who joined the EFCMP Chairman said the situation has worsened and called for an immediate restriction of heavy-duty trucks from plying the road to prevent a total collapse.

EFCMP had in its 24th September report warned of the deteriorating condition of the road and called on relevant authorities to intervene before it becomes a death trap.

The group, through its Chairman, has again appealed to the Eket Local Government and the Akwa Ibom State Government to urgently attend to the spot and commence rehabilitation works.
