Ibeno: Verdict From Home

Ibeno Local Government Area, yesterday, May 13, 2026, answered an important leadership question with regards to the 2027 elections. The people effectively settled the debate on whom they want for the Federal House election.

Converging at the Ulok Ulok Council Hall in Upenekang, they firmly decided their political future with Dr. Eunice Thomas, whom during her consultation to the Paramount Ruler of Ibeno, HRM Owong (Dr) Effiong Bassey Archianga JP, was described as “tested and trusted”.

Dr. Thomas was unanimously adopted by her people led by the Executive Chairperson of Ibeno Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Glory Eka. She was supported by the Leader of Ibeno Legislative Council, Hon. Mrs. Rose Nelson and her colleague-councillors.

Others who were part of the decision and affirmed the process include the Hon. Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Elder Ikoedem Ekong, Vice Chairperson of Council, the APC Chapter Chairman, State Officer of the Party, Supervisory Councillors, Ibeno Youth Leader, Women Groups, Students and a rich array of stakeholders.

The mood was finely captured in the words of Apostle Samuel Eka, a prominent stakeholder when he submitted that Ibeno had advocated for leadership change and a new political direction for several years. “Today, we are fulfilled that our advocacy has paid off and in the larger interest of Ibeno people”.

This overwhelming endorsement and goodwill towards Aspirant Eunice further solidify the fact that she is loved at “home”, and accepted across board. She represents the new hope of her people, a hope borne out of years of genuine yearning for an era of representation and leadership that is just and balanced.

In the words of Jomo Kenyetta, “Our children may learn about the heroes of the past. Our task is to make ourselves the architect of the future”.

Ibeno people have risen to make themselves their own liberators. And Eunice’s candidacy resonates with the optimism of these dreams that have always filled the villages and waters of Ibeno.
