… issues certificates to new clan heads, sets modality for review of remuneration

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has charged traditional rulers in Akwa Ibom State to continue to foster peace and unity within their domains, and announced an immediate upward review of their welfare package.

The Governor made the pronouncement Wednesday September 23, 2026 when he presented certificates of recognition to newly- recognized Traditional Rulers at the State Supreme Traditional Rulers Council Hall, Uyo.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of traditional rulers, announcing that modalities have been put in place to review their monthly remuneration.

“Let me also use this opportunity to urge you, our traditional rulers, and our socio-cultural groups, to leverage on your various platforms to promote sustainable peace and unity of our people in our State and beyond.

“Your selection to lead in the various capacities that you have found yourselves was as a result of our trust and confidence in you to deliver on your responsibilities as expected.

“Akwa Ibom remains one, and will continue to remain one and work as one. Your appointment is a call to serious responsibility . Do work to ensure our communities, Local Government Areas, and State thrive in peace and harmony for development to set in properly,” he said.

The Governor tasked the new Clan Heads and other traditional rulers to use their positions to “foster grassroots stability, promote unity, and collaborate closely with the State and the local governments to drive security and development.

Earlier in his welcome address, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong, described the event as a moment of cultural significance.

He praised the Governor for his visionary leadership and dedication to improving rural infrastructure, adding that the administration’s ARISE Agenda has brought notable development to the State and consolidated on the gains of past leaders.

The Commissioner noted, with appreciation, the Governor’s respect and commitment to the welfare of Traditional Rulers, demonstrated by the timely release of allowances, security, and welfare packages.

He also assured the traditional institution’s commitment to supporting the Governor and the ARISE Agenda.

In his remarks, the Oku Ibom Ibibio and President-General of the Supreme Council of Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, commended Governor Eno’s peace-loving disposition and pledged the commitment of traditional rulers to maintaining their advisory role to ensure peace and unity across the State.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, Akuku Saviour Sylvester Udofia, appreciated the Governor for his love and commitment to the welfare of the traditional rulers, assuring that they remain committed to supporting him and to pray for the success of this administration.

Highpoint of the event was the official presentation of certificates to new Clan Heads, including Etebom Bassey Okon, Ndiya Clan in Ikono Local Government Area, Etebom Ini Moses Akabom, Ito Clan in Ika Local Government Area and Etebom Mbang F. Mbang, Southern Afaha Clan in Ukanafun Local Government Area.

Others were Obong Joseph Okon Esu, Odu Clan in Okobo Local Government Area, Senator Nelson Asukwo Effiong, in Oron Local Government Area, Obong Eshiet Charles Eno, Eket Offiong Clan in Eket Local Government Area and Obong Okon Etim Asanang, Idua Clan in Oron Local Government Area.
