ANAMBRA POLICE RESPONDS TO ALLEGATIONS OF EXTORTION AT ONITSHA BRIDGEHEAD, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PROFESSIONAL POLICING
emphasizes that the conduct of every police officer is a reflection of his or her personal character and commitment to the ethics of the policing profession.
The Anambra State Police Command has noted a write-up circulating on social media alleging that some senior officers benefit from extortion by Police personnel at the Onitsha Bridge Head.
The Command wishes to state unequivocally that such allegations do not reflect the values, standards, and operational principles of the Nigeria Police Force. The pride and fulfilment of every senior and supervising officer lies in leading teams that operate professionally, lawfully and with integrity, not otherwise.
The Command emphasizes that the conduct of every Police Officer is a reflection of his or her personal character and commitment to the ethics of the profession. Accordingly, any act of unprofessionalism, misconduct, or extortion by an officer remains the responsibility of the individual concerned and does not represent the policy or directives of the Command or its leadership.
The Command, has consistently maintained a zero-tolerance stance against corruption, extortion, and all forms of unethical conduct. The Command will continue to investigate every credible complaint and ensure that any officer found culpable is subjected to the appropriate disciplinary procedures in line with the laws and regulations governing the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command therefore encourages members of the public to report specific incidents of misconduct with verifiable details, including the date, time, location, vehicle registration number, patrol team identity where available to the Command Control room number on 07039194332, the Public Relations Officer
on 08039334002 or the CRU 08069262121. Such information will greatly assist ongoing monitoring and disciplinary processes.
