Conflicting Statements Trail Reported Dissolution of Akwa Ibom PDP Exco
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has been caught in a wave of uncertainty following conflicting press statements regarding the reported dissolution of its State Executive Committee.
A statement attributed to the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, announced that the State Executive Council had been dissolved, with a 31-member caretaker committee constituted to oversee the party’s affairs for three months.
However, the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu, in a letter to the State Chairman of the party, Elder Aniekan Akpan and dated October 1, 2025, Senator Anyanwu dismissed the announcement.
In the letter which was read by Elder Akpan, He ( Anyanwu) maintained that no such decision was taken by the National Working Committee (NWC) and declared the purported dissolution “null, void, and of no effect.”
“The National Publicity Secretary has no constitutional authority to implement NWC decisions. The Akwa Ibom State Working Committee remains intact,” Senator Anyanwu clarified.
Adding to the controversy, Barr. Ekpong Bassey Edemumoh, currently serving as State Vice Chairman III and Chairman of Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District, issued a disclaimer over the use of his name in the alleged caretaker committee.
“For the records, I am Barr. Ekpong Bassey Edemumoh, not ‘Barr. Ekpong Edem’ listed as No. 27. I distance myself completely from the said appointment and committee,” he stated.
