EKET MONARCH PRESCRIBES GOV ENO’S UNITY AGENDA AS A WORTHY DEVELOPMENT MODEL

The Paramount Ruler of Eket LGA, His Majesty, Edidem E. C. D. Abia, has called on Akwa Ibom people to embrace unity, stressing that the state has more to gain by remaining united than pursuing disintegration.

He has also urged Nigeria to adopt the model of Unity being championed by Governor Umo Eno in Akwa Ibom, saying that this has eased the political tensions and acrimony that usually accompany political seasons.

Edidem Abia stated this when the leadership and members of the Eket Federal Constituency Media Professionals (EFCMP), led by its Chairman, Comrade Enobong Nsimah, paid him homage in his Atan Palace in Eket.

The Attah Ekid Afid commended Governor Umo Eno’s “Akwa Ibom United” initiative, describing his leadership as inclusive and transformational.

“Governor Umo Eno does not discriminate. He loves Akwa Ibom people and is committed to transforming the state into a one-stop tourist destination.

Edidem Abia who urged the media community to promote the cause of peace, unity and development, said “Akwa Ibom, as presently constituted, is the best formation, and we have a lot to gain by remaining united as one”.

“Those calling for the division of the State are not well informed; our State is already one of the smallest in the country.”

He recounted his primary school days in Ibeno where there was no discrimination, stressing that everyone existed as one.

“I never heard of Obolo or Ijaw when I attended primary school in Ibeno and there was no discrimination.

“Our people must understand that all of us are one, we all understand our common language and our land is blessed by God.

He therefore urged Akwa Ibom people to support the Akwa Ibom United vision and the Governor’s development agenda, saying the Governor means well for the people of the State.

The royal father further charged the media to promote good governance, shape public discourse and warned against social vices by young people, mostly those in tertiary institutions.

Earlier, EFCMP Chairman, Comrade Enobong Nsimah, told him that the forum which comprised journalists, online publishers, public relations professionals, photo-news makers and other media professionals from the four local government areas of the federal constituency.

Comrade Nsimah commended the monarch for promoting peace, unity and traditional values, assuring him of the media’s partnership with traditional institutions.

The Chairman of the EFCMP Board of Trustees and SSA to Governor Umo Eno on Research and Documentation, Dr. Essien Ekefre Ndueso, also described the monarch as a role model and trailblazer in entrepreneurship, and sought stronger media-traditional institution collaboration for greater community impact.

He assured that the media forum was ready to champion an advocacy for the youth in the community to embrace entrepreneurship and creative ventures rather than the new culture of jumping into politics as the only means to meet ends.
