EKET YOUTH LEADERSHIP CELEBRATES AKAN TOMMEY’S BIRTHDAY WITH EXCELLENCE AWARD

‎…as Chairman sets up Committee for youth training in oil and gas sector

‎The leadership of Eket youths on Monday 13 July, 2026, celebrated the 42nd birthday of the Executive Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Mkpisong Akaniyene Tommey, with the presentation of an Award of Excellence in recognition of his visionary, proactive and people-oriented leadership.

‎Setting the tone, Dr. Tommy Enodien, the Leader of the Team, who is a former Commissioner on the Board of EARCOM commended the Council Chairman for his pragmatic leadership style and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people, particularly the youth structure.

‎He described Mkpisong Akan Tommey as a focused, selfless and result-driven leader whose administration has delivered quality infrastructure and impactful projects that meet global standards.

‎”Let me commend you for your proactive approach to governance. Despite your youthful age, your leadership has been exemplary. Under your administration, Eket has witnessed remarkable progress in infrastructure development, peace and project execution. As a body, we will continue to support your administration and give you the necessary backing to succeed,” he said.

‎Dr. Enodien also appealed for increased opportunities for youth training and capacity building in the oil and gas sector to empower young people with employable skills.

‎He further appreciated Governor Umo Eno for entrusting young people with leadership responsibilities, describing him as a youth-friendly Governor whose ARISE Agenda has continued to impact lives through youth development centres, empowerment programmes and other people-oriented initiatives.

‎In their separate remarks, Comrade William William, Effiong Johnson and Ubong Willie extolled the chairman’s visionary leadership, describing him as a father figure who remains accessible and committed to addressing the challenges facing young people in the area.

‎Also speaking, the Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Hon. Francis Imose, expressed gratitude to the chairman for mentoring and nurturing him into leadership, noting that his open-door policy has endeared him to the people.

‎Eld. Godwin Nduaesa, while presenting the Award, on behalf of the Youths, confirmed that the Award was a well-deserved one, aimed at encouraging the Chairman to continue making the Youths proud.

‎Responding, Mkpisong Akan Tommey thanked the youth leadership for the honour and for identifying with him on his 42nd birthday.

‎He urged them to continue supporting Governor Umo Eno and the implementation of the ARISE Agenda by showcasing the administration’s achievements, including the construction of the Eket City Hall, the Eket Legislative Chambers, the remodelling of the Eket Local Government Secretariat, the Eket Christmas Village and the Operation Zero Potholes initiative.

‎The Chairman also reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the Eket Chairman’s Cup as a platform for discovering and nurturing football talents across the wards and villages of the local government area.

‎In response to the youths’ request for skills development, Mkpisong Akan Tommey immediately constituted a two-man committee comprising the Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Hon. Francis Imose, and Hon. Hans, to work out modalities for the commencement of youth training programmes in oil and gas-related fields.

‎The meeting was attended by Elder Godwin Nduesa, Barrister Naphtali, Comrade Joseph Edoho, Mr. Richard Ekanem, Senior Comrade Daniel Essien, Mr. Vincent Henry, Mr Bassey Bassey, Richard Sendy, Comrade Mfon Bassey,Samuel Odiong, Okon Youth President, Joseph Tommey, Aniefiok Ntekim, among others.
