Greater Akpabio Family Disowns Pat Ibanga Akpabio Over Comments Against Senate President
By Dominic Umoh
The Greater Akpabio Family of Ukana Ikot Ntuen in Essien Udim Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, has announced the excommunication of Mrs. Patience Ibanga Akpabio from the family, following what it described as persistent and unguarded comments against the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and his wife, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio.
Speaking to newsmen at the family’s ancestral meeting place, Afe Akuku Udo Akpabio, on Monday, the family’s leaders, Ekam Akpabio (Family Head) and Dr. Joe Akpabio (Deputy Family Head), alongside other 21 members, said the decision became necessary following Mrs. Patience’s continued social media attacks despite a traditional injunction warning.
The family, however, lamented that despite the injunction and appeals through her husband, Barr. Ibanga Akpabio, she continued to make public statements deemed disrespectful and injurious to the family’s reputation.
According to the statement, the family found her actions not only embarrassing but also contrary to the long-held values of respect, unity, and decorum that define the Akpabio dynasty. The family head noted that her behaviour had caused public ridicule and cast doubts on the family’s ability to maintain discipline among its members.
“The Greater Akpabio Family has age-long norms and channels for addressing grievances, therefore, to see that these were disregarded is regrettable and we cannot fold our arms and watch any longer because her conduct undermines our unity, dignity, and the every essence of our shared values” he added.
While reaffirming its pride in the leadership and accomplishments of Senator Godswill Akpabio, the family described him as “an esteemed son and the pride of the Greater Akpabio Family.”
They commended his exemplary service to the state, the senatorial district, and the nation at large, and pledged their continued support for his administration as President of the Senate.
As part of its resolution, the family officially placed a disclaimer on Mrs. Patience Ibanga Akpabio, declaring that she no longer represents or has any affiliation with the Greater Akpabio Family.
However, the family noted that if Mrs. Patience Akpabio expresses genuine remorse or tenders an apology through the appropriate family channels, her case may be reconsidered in accordance with the customs and traditions of Ukana Ikot Ntuen.
