Info Comm Dismisses Unwana Assam’s False Claims Against AKSG, Urges Him to Purge Himself of Perennial Falsehoods

The Commissioner for Information in Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, has dismissed as false and misleading recent claims by Unwana Assam in social media posts aimed at discrediting the administration of Governor Umo Eno, describing them as part of what he termed the critic’s “perennial life of falsehoods.”

Umanah stated this on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, while speaking with newsmen in his office, where he responded to what he described as misleading narratives about some programmes of the Governor Umo Eno-led administration and its promises to the people of the State.

The Commissioner said the claims on unfulfilled promises were calculated to create the erroneous impression that the State Government was not delivering on its programmes, stressing that developments across the State and available facts clearly contradict such assertions.

He described as incorrect the claim that the Umo Eno administration had abandoned its commitment to employing 3,000 persons into the civil service. According to him, the ongoing recruitment exercise across the civil service, teaching service and health sector is progressing, with about 7,000 employment opportunities expected to be filled, noting that employment letters will soon be released.

He explained that the recruitment process had taken some time because the government was determined to ensure a credible, transparent and merit-based exercise, including the verification of certificates and other relevant documents.

The Commissioner also dismissed the claim that students whose bursaries were recently announced had not been paid. He disclosed that, as of Tuesday, 14,305 verified students had received their bursary payments out of 50,109 applications received online, while the remaining applications were undergoing the necessary review and processing.

He said the exercise remained ongoing and that beneficiaries were being attended to in line with established procedures. He added that payment of the additional allowance to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was also progressing, in keeping with the administration’s commitment to supporting young people serving the State.

Umanah said the projects of Governor Umo Eno were “on ground everywhere” across Akwa Ibom State, urging critics to go beyond social media commentaries and physically verify the projects being executed by the administration.

He cited the ongoing commissioning of 39 projects in 30 days as part of activities marking the 39th anniversary of the creation of Akwa Ibom State, describing the exercise as a clear demonstration of the spread of development across the State.

The Commissioner specifically challenged Unwana Assam to be in his Local Government Area, Esit Eket, on Tuesday, where a brand-new Model Primary Healthcare Centre was being commissioned, saying the project provided an opportunity for him to see first-hand one of the administration’s interventions in the health sector.

He further highlighted the administration’s empowerment programmes and other people-oriented interventions, as well as its investments in roads, bridges, education, compassionate homes and the welfare of workers and pensioners.

Umanah stressed that these interventions were not mere promises or propaganda but deliberate efforts to improve the lives of the people and promote sustainable development across the State.

While acknowledging the place of constructive criticism in a democracy, the Commissioner urged Unwana Assam to “purge himself of perennial falsehoods” and ensure that his criticisms were guided by facts and fairness.

He said it was unfair and misleading for anyone to deliberately ignore ongoing projects, interventions and achievements simply to create a negative narrative about the administration.

Umanah reaffirmed that the Umo Eno administration remained focused on delivering on its ARISE Agenda and would not be distracted by unfounded claims. He urged members of the public to assess the administration on the basis of verifiable facts, visible projects and the tangible impact of government interventions across Akwa Ibom State.

“The facts remain clear: the work is ongoing, the projects are visible, and the people are benefiting,” the Commissioner said.
