NUJ CHAIRMAN EXTOLS DR USORO’S INTELLECTUAL PROWESS, RECEIVES NEW BOOK

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, has commended renowned media scholar and communication expert, Dr. Usoro Usoro, for his outstanding intellectual contributions to journalism, literature, and public discourse.

Comrade John gave the commendation while receiving copies of Dr. Usoro’s latest book, The Art of Writing Satire on Thursday, July 16 at the NUJ Press Center, describing it as a timely and invaluable resource for journalists, writers, students, and communication professionals.

He lauded Dr. Usoro’s unwavering commitment to promoting excellence in writing and critical thinking, noting that his works have continued to enrich the media profession and inspire a new generation of communicators.

According to the NUJ Chairman, satire remains a potent instrument for social commentary, public accountability, and democratic engagement when applied responsibly. He added that the publication would sharpen the writing skills of media practitioners while encouraging ethical, creative, and impactful journalism.

Comrade John assured that the NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council would encourage its members to study the book as part of ongoing efforts to enhance professional competence and uphold the highest standards of journalism.
He also used the opportunity to invite Dr. Usoro to serve as the guest lecturer at one of the Union’s forthcoming State Congresses, expressing confidence that his wealth of knowledge would greatly benefit members.

Presenting the books, Dr. Usoro Usoro, a former Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Godswill Akpabio, expressed appreciation to the NUJ leadership for its commitment to professionalism and continuous learning.

He explained that The Art of Writing Satire was written to provide practical insights into the principles, techniques, and ethical considerations of satirical writing, with the aim of equipping readers with the skills to use satire effectively and responsibly.

Dr. Usoro expressed confidence that the publication would serve as a valuable guide for journalists, authors, academics, and all those interested in using satire to educate, entertain, and stimulate constructive public discourse.

He also pledged to honour the invitation to speak at the Union’s State Congress when the time comes, adding that the Nsibiet John-led administration deserves his full support for its commitment to advancing journalism and professional development.

Members of the State Working Committee of the Union were present during the presentation.
