PETER UMOREN – A SELFLESS AND SILENT ACHIEVER IN BOXING DEVELOPMENT
Peter Umoren is a dedicated boxing coach based in Ikot Ibiok, Eket, Akwa Ibom State. Through passion, commitment, and personal sacrifice, he has established and manages a boxing training centre situated in front of his residence, where he currently trains over 25 aspiring boxers.
Over the years, Coach Peter Umoren has distinguished himself as one of the grassroots sports developers in Akwa Ibom State, discovering, nurturing, and mentoring young talents who have gone on to represent their local governments and the state at various competitions.
At the 5th National Youth Games in Kwara State, he discovered and trained four athletes (two male and two female boxers) who represented Akwa Ibom State. Remarkably, two of the athletes secured Gold Medals for the state (one male and one female boxer)
His impact was equally evident at the South-South Boxing Competition in Bayelsa State, where three of his discovered athletes won a total of one Gold Medal and two Silver Medals for Akwa Ibom State.
At the 2026 NDDC Competition, two of his athletes represented Akwa Ibom State and returned with one Gold Medal and one Bronze Medal, further showcasing the quality of talent emerging from his grassroots programme known as Vision Boxers
Coach Peter’s contribution to youth sports development dates back many years. During the 1st Akwa Ibom Youth Games in 2017, three of his athletes won three Bronze Medals for Eket Local Government Area.
In the 2nd Akwa Ibom Youth Games in 2018, twelve of his discovered athletes represented Eket Local Government Area and won three Gold Medals, three Silver Medals, and one Bronze Medal. In the same competition, athletes he trained also secured one Gold Medal and one Silver Medal for Ibeno Local Government Area.
At the 2025 Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival in Uyo, Coach Peter Umoren discovered and trained athletes who represented three different local government areas: five boxers for Onna LGA, five boxers for Eket LGA, and three boxers for Oron LGA, making a total of thirteen athletes. Their performances yielded impressive results, with Eket LGA winning one Silver Medal and two Bronze Medals, while Onna LGA secured one Silver Medal and three Bronze Medals.
Despite these outstanding achievements, Peter Umoren remains humble, focused, and committed to developing the next generation of boxing champions.
His dedication to youth empowerment, talent discovery, and sports excellence continues to create opportunities for young athletes and bring honour to Akwa Ibom State.
Indeed, Peter Umoren is a selfless and silent achiever whose contributions to boxing development deserve recognition and celebration.
