Sports Commissioner Endorses AKISEMSAS/AKSFA Sensitization Outreach, Pledges Attendance

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, has endorsed the planned sensitization outreach organised by the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance Systems (AKISEMSAS) in partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKSFA).

The Commissioner gave his support when the leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, alongside other football stakeholders, visited his office on Monday, August 24, 2026.

The one-day sensitization outreach for football stakeholders in Akwa Ibom State is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, at 9am at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Mr Samuel Umoh, said he led members of his board and other football stakeholders to brief the Commissioner on the recently held draws for the Troost-Ekong Foundation Secondary Schools Football Tournament.

He also used the opportunity to formally invite the Commissioner to the sensitization outreach, stressing the importance of emergency medical care during football matches.

Umoh explained that the AKSFA and AKISEMSAS had entered into a partnership aimed at providing emergency medical support during competitions and other activities organised by the Football Association and its affiliates.

He said the partnership would begin with the sensitization programme, which is designed to educate football stakeholders on how to respond to medical emergencies during matches.

The Sports Commissioner, Elder Paul Bassey, praised the vision of Governor Umo Eno for establishing the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance Systems.

He said the ambulance service had already provided valuable support in responding to medical emergencies across the state, adding that there were many testimonies of its impact.

Elder Paul Bassey also commended the Akwa Ibom State Football Association for the partnership with AKISEMSAS, describing it as an important step towards improving safety and protecting the lives of players, officials and other stakeholders during football matches.

He endorsed the sensitization outreach and confirmed that he would attend the event.

The Commissioner also urged other football stakeholders to attend the programme, stressing that knowledge of emergency response is important for everyone involved in the game.

Speaking on the relationship between the Ministry of Sports and the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Elder Bassey expressed satisfaction with the existing synergy and cooperation between both bodies.

He said the continued partnership would lead to more progress in sports development across the state.

The Commissioner also took note of the information presented to him about the Troost-Ekong Foundation Secondary Schools Football Tournament and reaffirmed his earlier commitment to attend the grand finale.

The delegation included the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Elder Joseph Bassey, leaders of the Akwa Ibom State Referees Council, members of the AKSFA board, match commissioners and other football stakeholders.

The AKISEMSAS/AKSFA sensitization outreach is expected to bring football stakeholders together to improve awareness and preparedness for medical emergencies during football activities in the state.
