2027 Elections: Former Eket House Member declares for House of Representatives seat
…promises effective representation
Former Member representing Eket State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. David Lawrence, has declared intention to contest for Eket/Esit Eket/Ibeno/ONNA Federal Constituency seat come 2027 general election.
Lawrence, disclosed this on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, during a media parley with some Journalists in Eket.
He maintained that with his wealth of experience as a two termed Member of the State Assembly, he has capacity to deliver on his legislative mandate and will offer the people of Eket Federal Constituency effective representation at the National Assembly when elected into office in 2027 general elections.
The former legislator also stated that his level of representation at the State Assembly cannot be compare with others, as he was able to attract two capital projects, Eket Stadium and China Market to his Constituency.
“As a State Legislator, I was able to attract Eket Stadium and China Market to my Constituency. No representative at the State House of Assembly or National Assembly, has been able to attract such gigantic projects to his or her Constituency,” Lawrence stated.
He added that the reason some people are averse to his style of leadership is because he is independent and courageous to speak his mind at any given situation.
Lawrence mentioned the case of Akwa Ibom State Map which he sponsored, saying while others were running away from it, he decided to sponsor the bill to ensure that the right thing is being done which has helped to addressed some anomaly in the state.
Answering questions on the abandoned China Market, he maintained that everything changed when Akwa Ibom State Government didn’t pay off the 30% equity in the project. He explained that the Chinese investors paid their 70% funding of the project, over N20billion while the State Government paid partly the 30% and further asked for review of government interest from 30% to 25% which stalled continuation of the project.
He disclosed that the project is a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract, where a private company is granted concession to finance, design and construct the project, operates the completed facility for a predetermined period to generate revenue and recoup its investment, and then transfer of ownership is transferred to government.
Lawrence expressed displeasure that some mischief makers especially politically interested parties, have been going to town, blackmailing him of embezzling public fund just for cheap political reasons. He charged Journalists to discountenanced the falsehood spread on social media just to daint his reputation, but should verify their story before publication, saying his rising political influence has unsettled some individuals hence they resort to mudslinging.
He therefore challenged the purveyor of falsehood to petition him to EFCC if they have found any financial infraction in the project, adding that he has been scrutinized and given a clean bill of health by some Committees set up by the State Government.
On rotation of political offices in Eket Federal Constituency and Akwa Ibom State, Lawrence maintained that at no time in the history of politics in Nigeria that political offices are exclusive rights of certain individuals, stressing that political mandate reside with the electorate, and for anyone to earn the trust and mandate of the electorate, one must be willing to represent and protect their interest.
Accompanied David Lawrence to the media parley were Chief of Staff to Eket Council Chairman, Chief Akpaekong Idim, former Supervisor for Culture in Eket Local Government, Engr. Thompson Usungedo, former Councillor and Chapter Vice Chairman of PDP in Eket, Hon. Inyang Ebuk, Coordinators of Friends of David Lawrence, among others.
