Council Boss Launches Free 7 Weeks Holiday Tech Camp
…Lauds Gov. Eno for Tech Development Initiatives
In a bid to bridge the digital divide and foster innovation, the Chairman of Esit Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Uduak Ikemesit Ikot, has kicked off a groundbreaking 7-week free holiday Tech Camp for secondary school students within the area.
Setting the tone for the Tech launch, the coordinator of the programme, Mr. Holifield Umoyo, who doubles as the Supervisor for Education, Information and Attitudinal Reorientation, said the programme is aimed at equipping young people with technological skills to be self reliant, and not just a basic training for general computer knowledge.
With the theme, “Bridging the Digital Divide in Our Rural Communities”, the program will capture core tech courses to include, but not limited to Computational Mathematics, Digital Literacy, Computer programming, Electronics, Embedded Systems, Robotics, amongst others.
While addressing students, teachers, and participants, the Council Boss, Hon. Mrs. Uduak Ikemesit Ikot, urged students to seize the opportunity to become self-reliant in today’s tech-driven world. She reflected on her own lack of access to such opportunities as a child, emphasizing her commitment to empowering every young person from Esit Eket to excel in technology.
Furthermore, the training, she noted, has the dual purpose of preparing students for the forthcoming WAEC computer-based exams and boosting their competency in JAMB exams, thereby setting them up for academic success.
Ikot, accompanied by the Commissioner for Power, Hon. Inionong Robson, and dignitaries including the Vice Chairman, Hon. Eddy Etangkanga, Secretary of Council, Comrade Godwin Elijah, and Head of Service, Elder Udo Edemeka, commended the State Governor, HE Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for his transformative initiatives, particularly in promoting science and technology.
During his remarks, Hon. Iniobong Robson, former Council Chairman and past ALGON leader in Akwa Ibom State, advised students to cultivate a habit of diligent study, stressing that academic success stems from persistent effort rather than innate ability. He underscored that the mind is a repository of knowledge acquired through consistent learning.
The 7-week free holiday tech camp, currently underway at the Special Computer Laboratory, Esit Eket Local Government Secretariat, is being expertly facilitated by Kodehauz Planet, a renowned African tech company led by Engr. Aniebiet Udoh, a distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
Also speaking on behalf of Kodehauz Planet, Engr. Udoh emphasized that the project goes beyond education, but a commitment to building a tech-savvy generation, ready to take on global challenges through innovation and competence.
“We are not just raising a generation, we are empowering the future”, Udoh added.
In their individual responses, the beneficiaries lauded the Council Chairman for her groundbreaking initiative, hailing it as a landmark program. They invoked divine blessings, praying for her longevity, protection, and prosperity.
