ELDER BASSEY CHARGES EKET APC WARD LEADERS ON COMMITMENT, DELIVERY
As political activities gather momentum ahead of 2027 General Elections, political ward leaders under the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Eket have begun to meet and identify with key stakeholders for onward formidable preparedness.
A recent meeting of such happened on Thursday, June 25, when the Forum of APC Ward Chairmen in Eket made a brief call on the Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, in his office.
In what they described as a “familiarization visit”, led by the Eket Chapter Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Honourable Inyang Jonny Ebuk, the forum while thanking the sports Commissioner for his sensitive and cooperative disposition to the course of the party back in Eket, appreciated Governor Umo Eno for the appointment of Elder Paul Bassey into his cabinet.
They particularly retraced with fondness, the springboard the party in Eket drew from Elder Bassey during her chapter and wards convention, and the recently concluded primaries of the party, pledging to reciprocate the gesture with unalloyed support to the administration of Governor Umo Eno beyond 2027.
In his response, Elder Bassey who was happy at the visit, thanked the team for their sense of unity. According to him,the spirit stems from Governor Umo Eno’s foresight to unite the state to the center, describing it as a formidable vision and clairvoyance that has brought blessings and development for the state, especially as the APC will stand elections with zero encumbrances behind its structure.
Commending the party leaders for having worked to ensure hitch free primaries across all the wards, the commissioner, however, charged them to work harder.
He reiterated how dear the oil rich local government is to Governor Eno to inform the many gains it is making from his government, including the State Sports Academy, which Elder Bassey described as one of the legacy projects in the state, with a multiplier effect of employment opportunities and prestige for the Eket people in particular and the state at large.
While also mentioning the 4.8 kilometers of road project commissioning of Wednesday, and the additional 12 kilometers of road promised the people of Eket, the commissioner justified the place of serious reciprocity when he said
” … that is why those of us that have responsibility in whatever capacity especially as ward chairmen have to work extra hard to sustain that primary place that Eket has , because the Governor does not joke with Eket at all . So let’s work hard and continue working”.
Handing a clue on what he described as ” present and practical” work proof of the party officials, Elder Bassey charged them to close gaps with INEC in ensuring the continuous voter’s registration exercise in the area attains its peak.
This particular charge came in furtherance to the Eket peoples’ loyalty to Governor Umo Eno as reflected in the Commissioner’s words thus ” …it is not enough for the Governor and other candidates to win. We know they will win for certain. But in Eket the votes must be massive”.
Making emphasis to the recent engagement of Governor Eno with village youth presidents across the state, the commissioner who described it as a welcome development, said it will trickle down to making the upcoming elections peaceful.
While calling on the party men to remain focussed as they discharge their duties, he also appealed for intercession for leaders at various levels from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Senate President Obot Akpabio down to members of the State House of Assembly.
