Akwa Esop Imaobong Ibibio ONNA Chapter Pays Courtesy Visit to Ven Udonsek

…“Let Love Lead,” Udonsek Charges Members

It was a remarkable and exciting moment as the Onna Chapter of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio paid a courtesy visit to Venerable (Mkpisong I of Ibibio Land) Dr. David Emmanuel Udonsek, MNSE (Bishop-Elect, GBC), at his residence in Eket.

The visit, held on Wednesday 20th August, at the conference hall of his residence, was primarily to express appreciation for his acceptance of their membership and to seek his assistance regarding the provision of an office space for the association’s activities.

In his response, Mkpisong Udonsek expressed gratitude to God for the grace of fellowship and thanked the members for their patience and commitment. He charged the association to remain bound in love, stressing that love is the foundation for unity and progress.

Quoting from the Bible, he reminded them of the story of the children of Israel, who were destined to journey from Egypt to Canaan in 40 days but wandered for 40 years due to disobedience and lack of love.

“As the name implies, ‘Ima Esop,’ I charge you to truly live in love with one another, for love is the only way forward,” Udonsek admonished.

On the request for office space, Dr. Udonsek pledged immediate assistance to the Onna Chapter, pending when land could be acquired for a permanent secretariat. He also promised to support the establishment of a cooperative account and welfare schemes to cater to the needs of members, especially in times of celebration and other important occasions.

Furthermore, Mkpisong Udonsek urged members to emulate Chief Clement Isong as their hero and not to forget the Contributions of former Governor (Mkpisong) Udom Emmanuel to Akwa Esop imaisong during his time as Governor of Akwa Ibom state by rehabilitating the old structure of Asan ibibio, also reviving Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio, and his efforts to affirmed the true position of Ibibio nation through the establishment of the original State Map, he also recalled that the vision of constituting Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio originated from Onna, pioneered by illustrious sons including Dr. Clement Isong, Attai Nne Clementine Isong, Ukai (Mkpisong) Engr. Udo Mbosoh and Prof. I. I. Ukpong of blessed memory. He therefore urged the present leadership and members not to allow the legacy of these heroes to fade but to uphold and advance their noble efforts.

Engr. (Ukai) Aniekan Dan, Chairman of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio Onna Chapter, during the visit expressed appreciation to the Mkpisong Udonsek for his acceptance and humanitarian services rendered since joining Akwa Esop Imaisong.

Ukai Dan provided a brief history of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio, noting it was founded in 1980 by pioneer members including Dr. Clement Isong, Attai Nne Clementine Isong, Ukai (Mkpisong) Engr. Udo Mbosoh and Prof. I. I. Ukpong of blessed memory. The group celebrated its 44th anniversary on March 27th 2025.

The Chairman also sought assistance in two key areas:
Requested support for renting an office space for the chapter. And also proposed formation of cooperative account to support members facing challenges with the high cost of living.

Other chapter officials including Atai Evelyn Ekeke, Atauko Aniedi (Secretary), Atauko Imaobong (Women Leader), and Atauko Florence Adiakpan (Treasurer) also expressed their appreciation to Mkpisong Udonsek for hosting them and lent their voices on the subject matter.
