Akwa Ibom FA Extends Financial Support to Referees, SWAN for National Engagements

In a show of solidarity and commitment to football development, the Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKSFA) on Monday, October 27, 2025, extended financial support to the Akwa Ibom State Referees Council and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, to assist them in their respective national engagements.

While members of the Referees Council are set to attend their national seminars and fitness tests, SWAN members will participate in the association’s Full General Meeting and 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee scheduled to hold in Abuja from October 29–31, 2025.

Speaking during the presentation, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Mr Samuel Umoh, said the gesture was aimed at supporting the bodies in their activities and strengthening their roles in football growth and development.

“The Referees and the media play vital roles in the football ecosystem. This support is part of the board’s contribution to ensure they continue to thrive as key stakeholders in the game’s development in our state,” Mr Umoh stated.

In their separate remarks, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Referees Council, Elder Joseph Bassey, and Chairman of SWAN Akwa Ibom Chapter, Comrade Emmanuel Akpan, expressed gratitude to the FA for the financial support.

They described the gesture as timely and encouraging, adding that it would go a long way in aiding their participation in the national events. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the FA to promote and develop football in Akwa Ibom State.
