ARCHBISHOP DR. IDEM IKON: FROM ASSISTANT SENIOR SCHOOL PREFECT TO GLOBAL REVIVALIST AND FOUNDER OF REVIVAL VALLEY MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL

Archbishop Dr. Idem Ikon is one of Nigeria’s foremost Pentecostal church leaders, missionaries, revivalists, Bible teachers, authors, and mentors. For more than five decades, he has devoted his life to the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the raising of Christian leaders, the planting of churches, and the advancement of missionary work across the world. As the Founder and President of Revival Valley Ministries International (RVMI), headquartered in Calabar, Cross River State, he has built a remarkable legacy of spiritual leadership, revival, discipleship, and Kingdom service that continues to impact lives globally.

His leadership journey began at the prestigious Hope Waddell Training Institution, where he was admitted in 1963. During his years at the institution, he distinguished himself through academic diligence, exemplary conduct, moral integrity, and outstanding leadership. In recognition of these qualities, he was appointed Assistant Senior School Prefect in 1970, one of the highest student leadership positions in the school. His formative years at Hope Waddell instilled in him the enduring values of discipline, excellence, responsibility, and servant leadership—virtues that would later become the hallmark of his ministry.

While still a student at Hope Waddell, Archbishop Ikon experienced a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ on November 26, 1967, an event that ignited within him an unwavering passion for evangelism and Christian service. Shortly afterwards, in January 1968, he preached his first public sermon during an open-air evangelistic meeting organised by his local church, marking the beginning of a distinguished ministerial career that has spanned more than half a century.

A defining milestone in his spiritual journey came on February 8, 1973, when he received a divine commission to proclaim the message of salvation, healing, revival, and the power of the Holy Spirit to the nations. This calling laid the foundation for the apostolic and missionary vision that has guided his ministry ever since.

In 1981, Archbishop Ikon founded Revival Valley Ministries, initially as a Bible study and discipleship fellowship in Calabar. Under his visionary leadership, the fellowship grew steadily and evolved into Revival Valley Ministries International (RVMI), an international Christian ministry committed to evangelism, discipleship, church planting, leadership development, theological training, humanitarian outreach, and global missions.

Throughout his distinguished ministry, Archbishop Ikon has witnessed for Christ in eighty-nine nations across six continents, conducting evangelistic crusades, revival meetings, pastors’ conferences, leadership seminars, and missionary outreaches. Through these global engagements, he has strengthened churches, inspired believers, equipped thousands of ministers for effective Christian service, and contributed significantly to the advancement of the Gospel worldwide.

As an apostolic leader, he has ordained pastors, consecrated bishops, commissioned missionaries, and provided spiritual oversight to numerous churches and ministries. His unwavering commitment to mentoring emerging leaders has produced generations of influential pastors, bishops, evangelists, and missionaries who continue to advance the Gospel within Nigeria and throughout the international Christian community.

Beyond the pulpit, Archbishop Ikon has demonstrated the practical expression of the Christian faith through humanitarian service. Through Revival Valley Ministries International, he has supported orphaned and vulnerable children, empowered rural communities, promoted Christian education, trained indigenous pastors, and implemented community development initiatives. These efforts reflect his conviction that authentic Christian ministry must address both the spiritual and physical needs of humanity.

A gifted Bible expositor, conference speaker, and teacher of God’s Word, Archbishop Ikon has ministered at national and international conferences, episcopal consecrations, ministers’ retreats, leadership summits, and revival conventions. His teachings consistently emphasise revival, holiness, prayer, faith, discipleship, servant leadership, the ministry of the Holy Spirit, and the fulfilment of the Great Commission. His influence transcends denominational boundaries, and he is widely regarded as a father of faith, mentor, and respected statesman within the Pentecostal movement.

Archbishop Ikon has consistently acknowledged the profound influence of Hope Waddell on his life and ministry. He credits the school’s disciplined environment, strong Christian ethos, and tradition of leadership for helping to shape his character and values. He has paid tribute to his Principal, Chief B. E. Okon (Taquinus Superbus), and to dedicated members of staff, including Mr. Otudor, Mr. Ebong, Ete Aye, Rev. (Captain) Brown, Ukorebi Asuquo, and Okon “Geometry,” for their fatherly guidance, mentorship, and commitment to excellence. He has also recognised the example set by the school’s prefects, whose discipline and orderly conduct left an enduring impression on him.

In addition, Archbishop Ikon has acknowledged the invaluable support and friendship of several classmates, including Etukudo Peters, Chibuzo Ibe, Nkechi Wadibia, Kalada Harry, and Maurice Edu, whose companionship and encouragement contributed significantly to his personal growth during his formative years at Hope Waddell.

Throughout his distinguished ministry, Archbishop Ikon has remained steadfast in his commitment to biblical truth, integrity, holiness, and missionary service. His life and ministry have transformed countless lives, strengthened churches, and inspired generations of Christian leaders to pursue lives of excellence, sacrificial service, and unwavering devotion to Christ.

Thos is something to remember.
