Etteh’s Free Medical Outreach Touches Over 4000 Lives Across Eket Federal Constituency
The people of Eket/ONNA/Esit-Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency have heaved a sigh of relief following an eight-day free comprehensive medical and ophthalmological outreach sponsored by their representative in the House of Representatives, Rep. Okpolupm Etteh.
The intervention, which crisscrossed the four local government areas of the constituency, brought hope, healing, and relief to thousands of indigent patients who otherwise could not afford medical care.
According to records from the medical team, the outreach attended to 1,523 medical and surgical patients, conducted 926 eye consultations, carried out 1,618 laboratory tests, dispensed 914 reading glasses, and successfully performed 57 eye surgeries and 246 general surgeries.
The general surgeries covered a wide range of critical procedures including myomectomy, herniorrhaphy, exploratory laparotomy, hydrocelectomy, vaginal hysterectomy, herniorrhaphy, appendectomy, uv-prolapse, ganglionectomy, abdominal hysterectomy, intestinal obstruction, lumpectomy, and left ovarian cystectomy.
The life-changing initiative commenced at the Cottage Hospital, Upenekang in Ibeno LGA, moved to the Cottage Hospital, Ekpene Obo in Esit-Eket LGA, continued at the General Hospital, Awa-Iman in ONNA LGA, and climaxed at the Immanuel General Hospital, Eket LGA.
For many beneficiaries, the outreach was nothing short of a miracle. Patients who had endured years of untreated ailments, impaired vision, and life-threatening medical conditions were treated free of charge, restoring their health and hope.
Rep. Etteh, who has consistently emphasized human capital and social development in his constituency, said the outreach was part of his promise to improve the quality of life for his constituents.
“Healthcare is a basic right, not a privilege. I am grateful to God that through this outreach, we were able to touch lives, save lives, and give hope to families. This is just the beginning, and we will continue to prioritize the wellbeing of our people,” he stated.
Medical experts, led by Dr. Unanam Ekaette, who participated in the programme described it as one of the most far-reaching interventions in recent years in the constituency, given the volume and diversity of medical cases attended to.
As the curtains drew on the outreach, the smiles on the faces of beneficiaries told a story of gratitude, relief, and renewed faith in leadership. For many, the gesture has etched an indelible mark in the health history of the constituency.
