Even at Kuje Prison, I was still promoting the Ibom Air Brand

It is surprising that many people, some paid agents have resorted to demarket Ibom Air brand just because there was a minor issue between a passenger and Air Hostess during the August 10 flight from Uyo to Lagos which have been resolved by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, SAN. It is more surprising that some Akwa Ibomites have joined the fray to launch media offensive against their state owned airline with #BoycottIbomAir campaign just to massage the ego of some disgruntled elements. It is something to marvel on. No wonder our people used to say, “ifót ata idem,” meaning witch that chew himself.

Well, the truth remain, no matter how they try to destroy Ibom Air, the airline will continue to grow and flourish beyond imagination of it detractors. Ibom Air remain an unbeatable brand in the Nigeria aviation industry and one of the best in sub-saharan Africa and nobody can bring it down. Not even it’s competitors.

In November 2023, when I was incarcerated at Kuje Prison, I didn’t know the correctional facility is very close to Abuja airport until when I heard noises of aircraft at night. So I peeped through the window and saw an aircraft descending downward. After about an hour or thereabout, I heard another aircraft and it was going the same direction like the first one and I quickly assumed the facility is close to the airport.

The previous day, when the prison gates were opened for inmates to go out to fetch water or those who were preparing for a football competition, I joined them and sat down watching from the sideline. While still watching the match, I heard a noise of an aircraft, and I looked up, behold it was Ibom Air. I quickly drew the attention of some people that we were having conversation that the aircraft that is passing is Akwa Ibom State Government aircraft, Ibom Air. They were so excited that our State is growing faster in terms of infrastructure and we are always privileged to have good leaders. The discussion widen until we were returned to our different cells.

Since then, every time we are permitted to leave our cell, I will sat strategically and anytime an aircraft either taking off or descending to land, I will checked, if it is Ibom Air, I will fixed my eyes on it till it landed. I used to tell other inmates how comfortable and friendly the aircraft are. I keep telling them that Akwa Ibom State Government is the only state in Nigeria that are running airline business and it is flourishing with more routes established as they progress. How can we just wake up and started campaign against a global brand just because there was an issue involving a passenger and some crew members?

Ibom Air is a multi-billion Naira business and it is properly managed by seasoned professionals. No hate campaign and paid media onslaught will ever bring it down. Ibom Air will continue to grow higher than ever before. Those who are pained by it growth should engage themselves in productive ventures rather than bile campaign that will yield no positive result.

Ibom Air Remain A Global Brand. It is a deliberate action by the management and it will continue to grow from strength to strength. I will continue to identify with this brand because it remain the best.
