Frank Archibong Donates Reticulated Water System to Esit Urua Village
The Dean of Commissioners and Special Advisers/ Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong, has donated a 20,000 litres borehole reticulated water system with a treatment plant to Esit Urua Community as part of activities marking his 50th birthday celebration.
Speaking during the commissioning on the 20th of August, Archibong said the project was borne out of requests made by women and youths of the community during electioneering campaigns. He explained that the facility has been extended to two additional locations and urged residents to protect it as their own.
“This water was based on request. When we came to the Primary School for campaigns, one of the requests from the women was water. The youths of Esit Urua came to my house and still solicited for water. Sorry it took longer than expected, but we’ve added a treatment plant and reticulated it to two different locations,” he said.
Archibong attributed the project to the visionary leadership of Governor Umo Eno and encouraged the community to continue supporting government programs. He also advised residents to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise.
Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Akan Tommey, described the facility as a birthday gift to Archibong, urging residents to see the project as their personal property and safeguard it.
“The project is beautiful and this is a gift to him on his 50th birthday. Don’t treat this potable water supply as government property, but treat it as your personal property,” Tommey said.
Also speaking, Member representing Eket State Constituency, Hon. Nsidibe Akata, hailed Archibong as “godsent” to the people of Eket, while the Paramount Ruler of Eket, His Royal Majesty ECD Abia, commended the donor for addressing a key community need.
“Government will do everything to protect Esit Urua and provide for its needs. We appreciate Frank for giving Esit Urua water, because aside from the air we breathe, water is the best thing we have,” the monarch said.
Earlier, Chief Julius Imaekop, who spoke on behalf of the village, thanked Archibong for fulfilling his promise and appealed for more government presence in the area.
