GOV ENO DONATES HOME TO LATE POLICE OFFICER’S FAMILY AHEAD OF BURIAL

What began as an invitation to a burial has culminated in a new home and a renewed sense of dignity for the family of late Inspector Hosana Akpan, a police officer who served at the Akwa Ibom State Government House from 2023 until her death in February 2026.

Governor Umo Eno, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, donated an ARISE Compassionate Home to the family of the deceased at Use Ikpa Ebio in Uyo, barely two days before her burial.

Inspector Akpan, who died after an illness, left behind her husband and four children, for whom the intervention has provided not only a new home but also a lasting reminder of their mother’s years of service.

The intervention was triggered after the Government House Chief Security Officer, CSP Sini Besta, brought the condition of the late officer’s residence to the Governor’s attention ahead of her burial.

Upon receiving the burial invitation and being informed of the condition of the residence, Governor Eno directed a team to inspect the property. Following the assessment, he ordered the construction of a new home for the family.

What followed was a race against time: Construction commenced in August and was completed in September, ahead of the deceased officer’s final burial rites.

Represented at the commissioning by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, Governor Eno presented the family with the house and N500,000 business support to the deceased’s son, Ubong Emmanuel.

In his remarks, the Governor described the house as a lasting tribute to a life of service and a statement that death cannot erase the dignity of those who served diligently.

Giving an overview of the project, Hon. Nsikan-Abasi Umoekpo described the home as a unique two-bedroom bungalow, noting that it was equipped with facilities designed to provide sustainable comfort for the family, including solar-powered electricity, a solar-powered borehole and other essential facilities, making the intervention more than just the provision of accommodation.

He added that Governor Eno has so far delivered over 10 compassionate Homes in Uyo local government area.

Earlier, in his welcome remarks, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr Uwemedimo Udoh, described the gesture as a morale booster for men and officers of the Nigeria Police, saying it would provide succour to the family of the departed officer.

He further demonstrated his support by donating N2 million towards the burial of the late Inspector Akpan.

In her goodwill message, CSP Sini Besta commended Governor Eno for his prompt response to her request and for extending his compassionate interventions beyond vulnerable citizens to include his staff and officers of the police.

Describing the home as unique, the Government House Chief Security officer particularly appreciated the Governor for acquiring a fresh parcel of land for the project and going the extra mile to fence the building. She prayed for God’s continued blessings upon Governor Eno for the gesture.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, described the building as an exceptional home and commended Governor Eno for his continued interventions in the lives of people in need.

For the family, the gesture meant far more than a new building. Speaking on their behalf, Ubong Emmanuel described the home as “more than a relief,” saying it had restored dignity to his mother’s final journey and assured the family that her years of service were not forgotten.

Inspector Hosana Akpan died in February. On September 18, she will be laid to rest, but her husband and four children will return to a home that stands as a lasting tribute to her life, her service and the compassion shown to her family.
