That was the assurance given by the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno on Wednesday, shortly after his arrival at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, where he interacted with Government House correspondents.
The Governor, who had just returned from an official trip to the United Kingdom, stated that his administration will continue to identify with and support indigenes of the state making remarkable impact across the globe. He maintained that such recognition was not only to honour them but also to inspire other Akwa Ibom youths to embrace hard work, sacrifice and excellence.
Governor Eno disclosed that during the visit, he met with British-based boxing champion of Akwa Ibom origin, Moses Itauma, as well as the Mayor of Islington, Jason Utitofon, both of whom he described as worthy ambassadors of the state. He noted that their achievements have further reinforced the belief that Akwa Ibom sons and daughters can excel anywhere in the world without relying on godfathers, but through commitment and discipline.
While commending Itauma and Utitofon, the State Chief Executive emphasized that his administration would continue to provide the needed encouragement for Akwa Ibom people who distinguish themselves in their chosen fields.
In a related development, the Governor disclosed that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently signed with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in Abuja was aimed at ensuring 24-hour electricity supply in Akwa Ibom. He explained that the agreement would particularly benefit unserved and underserved communities that are not connected to the national grid.
He further announced that the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Power Summit, scheduled for September 18 and 19 in collaboration with the REA, would provide a roadmap for achieving reliable and sustainable power supply in the state. He maintained that the initiative is part of his ARISE Agenda to boost industrial growth, improve livelihoods and strengthen the local economy.
