Ibeno Council Chairman Partners EFCMP, Against Cybercrimes, Misinformation
…receives plaudits for complementing Gov Eno’s impactful leadership
Media Professionals in Eket Federal Constituency have resolved to partner the Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Area, Mrs. Glory Ekah, in tackling cyber bullying, defamatory outbursts and misinformations, a trend she saw as a deviation from the agelong decency values of her people.
She said, even though it was not wrong to constructively criticize, it was an aberration seeing young people variously run disparaging comments against their elders, especially public office holders.
Mrs. Glory Ekah spoke when she received the Eket Federal Constituency Media Professionals, led by the chairman, Mr Enobong Nsima, in her council headquarters.
The Council Chairman condemned the actions of certain social media influencers, noting that their conduct constitutes an erosion of societal values and must be urgently addressed.
She commended Pastor Umo Eno for giving the template to follow with the Arise Agenda, adding that, it is a guiding tool for our performance.
She reaffirmed her administration’s resolve to continue prioritising the welfare of the people.
‘’Most people will think that you are just journalists, but for me it goes beyond that. You have taken your work very serious and having the interest to know what is happening. You have to know what the people you voted into power are doing if they are performing well or not. I commend you for this exercise’’.
Reeling out her administration’s scorecard, Hon. Ekah said her focus remains on delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Ibeno and particular attention to healthcare services especially to the people living close to the riverside.
As part of her youth empowerment initiative, Hon Ekah hinted that she has “sponsored a safety training for Ibeno youths, distribution of educational materials to pupils and students, bursary payments and grants. Also, provision of clean solar powered borehole water at Ibeno market, renovation of toilet facilities at Ibeno market’’.
Addressing the Council Chairman, the EFCMP Chairman, Comr. Enobong Nsima, lamented that negative trends are on the rise, as some young persons now seek relevance by maligning and misinforming the public about political office holders.
“We are working to get rid of this trend. It is believed that news only trends when it is negative. But we believe that positive news can also trend”.
The chairman maintained that, “as part of our responsibility to shape the society, connect the people with government activities, we came here today to see for ourselves and report the achievements of your administration, as verified and to also inform the people the activities of your administration”.
Speaking at the project sites, Nsima asserted that, “What we have seen on ground is impressive. Hon. Mrs. Glory Ekah has written her name in gold in the history of Ibeno LGA.
We rate her performance high and we encourage her to sustain this tempo of development as the future beckons”.
The BOT Chairman of EFCMP, Dr. Essien Ndueso, noted that, with your achievements, ‘’it is will be easy to convince people to support government especially in the era of our society where votes count. People now vote and support you by seeing what you do’’.
‘’This is the biggest administrative block built by a local government chairman in Akwa Ibom and the biggest project executed and you are doing this to complement the administration of Pastor Umo Eno
The forum commended Hon. Ekah for her dedication, transparency and commitment to grassroots governance and transformation, describing her leadership as people-centered and result-driven.
Projects assessed by the EFCMP team include ongoing construction of the state-of-the-art two-storey council secretariat, Patience Umo Eno Health Center, Iwokpom, and Arise Compassionate Home, Okoroutip, among others.
