Keke Driver Attacks Passenger With Hammer Over ₦50 Change in Uyo

Tragic incident occurred in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, when a Keke (tricycle) rider reportedly attacked a young passenger with a hammer, seriously injuring him during a disagreement over ₦50 change.

The victim, who is neither a thief nor a troublemaker, was allegedly assaulted by the Keke driver after he asked for his balance. In response, the driver pulled out a heavy hammer from his tricycle and struck the passenger on the head, leaving him unconscious and severely wounded.

According to an eyewitness report tracked by Caretaker News Now, the attack caused serious damage to the man’s skull, particularly in the medulla oblongata area, which controls vital body functions. The incident occurred late at night, and the injured man was rushed to two hospitals before being referred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) around 11 pm.

A Good Samaritan, Inemesit Umo-udofia, who helped transport the victim to UUTH, recounted how the young man was gasping for air and urgently needed oxygen to survive. With no cash in hand and the oxygen costing ₦19,000, he reached out to friends and supporters. Immediate financial support was provided by Pastor Voiceubongabasi Udokang and Ms Nyakno Ruth Emmanuel, who responded swiftly and generously to save the man’s life.

The victim is currently receiving treatment at UUTH and is gradually recovering, thanks to the efforts of the hospital staff and those who supported his emergency care.
