Mkpisong Gabriel Fan emerges President Akwa Ibom Community Abuja

Renowned expert in maritime development and blue economy, Mkpisong (Barr) Gabriel Fan, has emerged the newly elected President of Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja.

Mkpisong Fan polled 99% of the total number of votes cast, exceeding the constitutional threshold of 51% to emerge the winner in a keenly contested election, held at Ibom House in Abuja on June 28, 2025, and witnessed by mammoth crowd from the oil rich State in the Niger Delta region.

Fan, who hails from Eket Local Government Area is the pioneer President of Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja from Eket Federal Constituency since the inception of the Community.

Other members of the newly constituted Executive Committee who emerged victorious at the poll are: Akparawa Solomon Umana, Vice President; Comrade Christopher Udoh, Secretary General; Mr. Ofonime Umana, Assistant Secretary General; Mr. Emmanuel Mbang, Financial Secretary; and Pastor (Mrs) Idorenyin Blessed, Treasurer.

Also, in the Exco are: Mr. Francis Udoakpan, Public Relations Officer; Akparawa Marshal Ekpenyong, Assistant Public Relations Officer; Akparawa Uwem Johnson, Director of Socials and Culture; Mrs. Iboro Ubong, Welfare Officer; Engr. Godwin Gabriel, Provost Marshal; Mrs. Maria Orok, Women Leader; Comrade Clement Clement Edet, Youth Leader; Barr. Iwukem Ntong, Legal Adviser; and Barr. Mary Warino, Assistant Legal Adviser.

In a statement signed by the newly elected President, Mkpisong Fan expressed profound gratitude to the Almighty God for a peaceful, transparent, credible, and fair electoral process. He also thanked all the stakeholders, candidates, voters, and the Electoral Committee for playing vital role that has midwifed the success of the election, which placed premium on the integrity of the Community democratic norms, values and culture.

While congratulating all the winners at the poll, he maintained that the emergence of the new leaders is not a personal victory but a collective triumph for Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja, urging all to join hands together to commence the journey of rebuilding and repositioning the community for optimum productivity.

The statement reads in part: “The just concluded elections of the Akwa Ibom Community, Abuja, have come and gone. We are profoundly grateful to the Almighty God for a peaceful, transparent, fair, and credible electoral process. We also deeply appreciate all stakeholders, candidates, voters, and indeed the Election Committee, who played a pivotal role in midwifing a successful outing predicated on the integrity of our democratic norms, values and culture.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees (BOTs), our respected Patrons and Patronesses, and the entire members of the Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja, I, the President, on behalf of the Executive Council, extend our sincere gratitude for the trust and mandate bestowed upon us.

“Today, we stand not as victors, but as stewards of a collective responsibility to build a virile, stronger, united, and progressive Akwa Ibom Community in the Federal Capital Territory. As we embark on this journey, we wish to reiterate that this is not a victory for a few, it is a victory for us all.

“We therefore make this passionate call: Let us come together in one accord. Let us put aside all grievances, disappointments, or differences and rally around the ideals that bind us as a people. Let us embrace peace over discord, collaboration over confrontation, and unity over division.

“Our mandate is clear, to serve and to deliver on our manifesto. But we cannot do it devoid of your tacit cooperation. We need your support, your ideas, your participation, and your prayers. Together, we can actualize the shared dream of our Community that thrives on dignity, mutual respect, cultural pride, development, and empowerment for all.

“The task ahead requires sincerity, sacrifice, and selfless service, our collective involvement, and we assure you of our commitment to lead with transparency, accountability, and inclusion.

“At this juncture, I wish to heartily congratulate all the winners. Your emergence as leaders is not just a personal victory but a collective triumph for our community. It is a reflection of the confidence reposed in you by the people and a call to service anchored on trust, integrity, and commitment.

“We recognize the hard work, dedication, and courage it took to contest, and we celebrate your success with sincerity and goodwill. Each of you has a unique role to play in shaping the future of our Community, and we are optimistic that with unity of purpose, we will build a stronger and more vibrant Akwa Ibom Community in the Federal Capital Territory.

“To those who did not win this time, your contributions to the democratic process are deeply appreciated. Your ideas, passion, and willingness to serve are invaluable. We urge everyone to remain focused, engaged, and supportive of the collective goals ahead. There is a place for everyone in this journey.

“As we prepare to commence the journey of sustaining, rebuilding and repositioning the Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja, let this be our collective resolve: to protect our heritage, to pursue our common interests, and to stand as one indivisible family.

“Again, as this new chapter begins, may collaboration guide our actions, may humility lead our hearts, and may our love for Akwa Ibom bind us stronger together. Let the past remain in the past. Let today mark a new dawn. The future we desire is only possible when we all play our part.

Speaking with our correspondent, Mkpisong Fan, said he dedicated the victory to God Almighty and the good people of Eket Federal Constituency who stood resolutely by him throughout the entire electioneering campaigns.

Fan, whose manifesto is anchored on 4 pillars, namely: Welfare, Inclusiveness, Collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Government and Corporate bodies to foster the collective interest of Akwa Ibom indigenes in the Federal Capital Territory, and Promotion of our cultural heritage, urged everyone to remain focused, engaged, and supportive of the collective goals under his leadership. He assured of his magnanimity to carry all along in his administration.

Meanwhile, the 13 man newly elected Executive Committee of Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja were sworn-in immediately after the election while the elaborate inauguration is slated to hold in October this year.

In another development, the newly elected President, Mkpisong (Barr.) Gabriel Fan led the 13 members Executive Committee and other stakeholders to pay a courtesy visit to the Special Assistant to the Governor on Mobilization, Abuja, Comrade Kingsley Iwok at his office.

Mkpisong Fan, firmly appreciated and commended the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D, for non-interference with the internalization process of their election in contrast to what was a case scenario of the past.

Giving credence to the Governor’s sterling leadership and glowing achievements in the state, the President, who showed excitement in the success of the election, pledged to support the ARISE Agenda of the Umo Eno led administration, promising a robust partnership for greater progress.

On a similar note, the Director General of Gabriel Fan Campaign Organization and former president, Comr. Tommy Etim PhD, alongside a trustee, Barr. George Aniekpon, respectively, alluded that the first port of call, immediately after their election, was to visit the SA on Mobilization to report progress as a mark of respect to the Governor, hopeful to extract commitment for mutual working relationship and support for the new executive.

In his reaction, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Mobilization, Abuja, Comrade Kingsley Iwok, congratulated the new executive committee on their election victory. He urged them to be magnanimous in victory and pleaded for extension of the “olive branch” to other contestants. He also commended the immediate past President, Barr. Aniefiok Ibah, for peaceful election and successful transition.

Iwok assured the team of Governor Umo Eno’s disposition to keep running a government of inclusivity, stressing that their declaration of support was a bold step that is deeply commended and appreciated.
