NBA UYO BRANCH CONFRONTS VIO OFFICIALS OVER DEFIANCE OF COURT JUDGMENT
In a bold demonstration of its commitment to the Rule of Law, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Uyo Branch, led by its Chairman, Ime Umofiah, Esq., on Monday, 21st July 2025, confronted officials of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) stationed along Oron Road, Uyo.
This action follows the continued presence of VIO officials on public roads in clear contravention of a subsisting court judgment which categorically restrains them from operating in such capacity.
The NBA Uyo Branch, accompanied by members of its Executive Committee and senior legal practitioners, demanded an explanation from the officials regarding their unlawful operations. In response, the VIO officials claimed they were acting based on information allegedly received from the Ministry of Justice that the judgment in question had been appealed and a stay of execution secured.
In light of this claim, the Branch has formally written to the Office of the Attorney General of Akwa Ibom State seeking clarification on the current legal position and the authenticity of the VIO’s assertions.
The NBA Uyo Branch emphasizes that disregard for judicial pronouncements undermines the administration of justice and the supremacy of the law. The Branch remains resolute in its stance that all agencies of government must respect and obey valid court orders.
The NBA Uyo Branch will continue to take all necessary legal and civic steps to safeguard the Rule of Law and ensure compliance with court decisions in the interest of justice and good governance.
