The Inspector General of Police had earlier instituted the case against Oliver over allegations of cyberstalking Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, through a series of Facebook posts the police described as “defamatory.”

After the amended charges were read, Fejiro Oliver pleaded not guilty to both counts.

During the arraignment, Dr. R.O. Ishiguzo, Esq., appeared alongside CSP Gladys Imegu, Esq., for the Inspector General of Police, while Inibehe Effiong appeared with Austin Nyekigbe, Esq., for the defendant, Fejiro Oliver.

Following arguments on the bail applications in both cases, the presiding judge, Justice Olufunmilola A. Agbaje, adjourned the matter to October 16, 2025, for ruling on the pending applications and ordered Oliver’s remand at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre.

Meanwhile, the fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by the Delta-born journalist also came up for hearing on Thursday before Federal High Court 2, Asaba.

Oliver had instituted a N1 billion lawsuit against Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone, and Stella Okotete, the Executive Director (Business Development) of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), alleging violations of his fundamental rights.

Also joined as respondents in the suit, filed to enforce his rights to dignity of the human person, personal liberty, privacy, and freedom of movement, are the Inspector General of Police, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), DCP Adegoke Alani, and CSP Solomon Nwokolo of the state command.

Appearing for the applicant, human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, with Austin Nyekigbe, Esq., urged the court to order Oliver’s release, arguing that the police had failed to show cause for his continued detention within the 48-hour period earlier directed by the court.

The Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, personally appeared with O. Agbatutu, Esq., and Emmanuel Uzor, Esq., for the Governor of Delta State (1st Respondent).

Dr. R.O. Ishiguzo, Esq., again appeared with CSP Gladys Imegu, Esq., for the police (4th to 8th Respondents).

After hearing all submissions, Justice Olufunmilola A. Agbaje declined to grant Oliver’s request for unconditional release, noting that formal charges had already been filed against him, and adjourned the rights enforcement suit to November 4, 2025, for further hearing.
