One Year in Office: Former Chairmen Pass Vote of Confidence on Gideon Uwa

As Council Boss Engages Traditional Rulers, NULGE

Former Chairmen of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area have passed a vote of confidence on the Executive Chairman, Gideon Uwa, in recognition of his inclusive leadership style, developmental strides, and people-focused governance within his first year in office.

The endorsement came on Monday during a series of consultative engagements held at the Council Secretariat, Utu Etim Ekpo, as part of activities marking the Chairman’s one-year anniversary in office.

The meetings brought together traditional rulers, members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), and former council chairmen for a collective reflection on the progress achieved under Uwa’s administration.

In a motion for the vote of confidence was moved by Barr. Mbetobong Okpongette, a former transition chairman, and seconded by Archbishop Prof. Ahaziah Umanah, a pioneer chairman, they said their decision is based on a robust review of the achievements recorded by the current administration.

Other former Chairmen in attendance included: Barr. Chris Okorie, Chief Dr. Uduot Jack, Obonganwan Obonodo Uko, Rt. Hon. Imeh Afia and Hon. (Elder) Ekpuk Eshiet.

Speaking on behalf of the former chairmen, the Member Representing Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung, applauded the Chairman’s humility, accessibility and visible transformation across the council area.

He described Uwa’s first year in office as “impactful and inspiring,” noting that his leadership has restored public trust and confidence in local government administration, pledging the group’s continued support and counsel to ensure the success of the administration.

Responding, Gideon Uwa expressed gratitude to the former chairmen for their confidence and solidarity, describing their gesture as a motivation to sustain the pace of development and deepen collaboration across all sectors.

“Governance is a continuum,” he noted, “and this vote of confidence is a reminder that we must keep building on the legacies of the past to achieve greater results for our people.”

Earlier in the day, the Chairman met with the Etim Ekpo Traditional Rulers Council, where he commended the royal fathers for their consistent prayers, guidance, and partnership in maintaining peace and stability.

The Paramount Ruler of Etim Ekpo, Akuku (Prof.) Amanam Udo, lauded Uwa for remodeling the Council Secretariat and promoting cordial relations with the traditional institution, assuring him of the continued cooperation of the royal fathers.

During an interactive session with NULGE members, Uwa reaffirmed his commitment to staff welfare and a conducive working environment.

The Akwa Ibom State President of NULGE, Mrs. Anestina Iweh, commended his administration’s people-oriented initiatives, noting that “under his leadership, Etim Ekpo has become a model for balanced attention to workers’ welfare and community development.”
