Rural Development: Urua Ntakrok Nears Completion as Nsit Ubium Chairman Delivers More People-Oriented Projects
The newly constructed Urua Ntakrok (Ntakrok Market) in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area is nearing completion, eliciting joy among traders, while signalling another major achievement of the council chairman, Hon. Alfred Charles, within his first year in office.
A team of journalists, led on an inspection tour of the facility on Tuesday, October 7, by the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Mr. Isaac Akpan, and the PA on Project Monitoring, Mr. Aniefiok Ntekop, were shown around the market which features 36 lock-up shops and several open stalls designed to promote local trade and commerce.
Speaking during the inspection, Mr. Akpan highlighted several developmental strides recorded under the administration of Hon. Alfred Charles, describing them as “people-centered and impactful.”
“The Chairman has carried out laudable and people-oriented projects within just one year in office,” Akpan said.
“These include the rehabilitation of the Legislative Chambers, construction of the Urua Ntakrok, upgrading and furnishing of the ICT Centre, establishment of the Education Trust Fund, Medical outreach, distribution of educational materials to schools, and various human capacity development programmes.”
He further assured that the second year of the administration would bring even more development across the local government area.
“As we step into the second year, our people should expect more developmental projects and empowerment initiatives. The Chairman is not relenting in delivering on his mandate to serve the people of Nsit Ubium faithfully,” he added.
Also speaking, a market woman who trades at Urua Ntakrok expressed joy over the transformation of the market, recalling the difficult conditions they endured before the construction.
“Before now, we used to sit under the sun and rain to sell our goods,” she said. “But today, God has sent our Chairman to give us a befitting market. People now come from far and near to trade here. The Chairman has done even more than we expected, and everything he does is for the people.”
She congratulated Hon. Alfred Charles on his one year in office and prayed for God’s strength and wisdom for him to continue delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
Located strategically between Mbak Uno, Ikot Editon, Ekpene Ukim, and Ikot Ubo communities, the new Urua Ntakrok is expected to boost economic activities and enhance revenue generation for the local government when completed.
