The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with a cult-related assault, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm and human skull.

According to a statement signed on Monday, September 1, 2025, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the suspects were apprehended on August 28, following a report lodged three days earlier by a student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.

The student alleged that he was ambushed and attacked with dangerous weapons along Ikot Osurua by members of a proscribed cult group, the Ku Klux Klans Confraternity. He was left unconscious with severe injuries, while his Redmi 13C Android phone and ₦41,000 cash were stolen. The victim had reportedly renounced his membership of the group before the attack.

Acting on intelligence, operatives of the Command arrested the suspects identified as Douglas Ambe Esikhene, Stephen Asukwo Effiong, Saviour Dany Akpan, Emmanuel Friday Umoh, Augustine Uduak Okon, Mary Ating Asukwo, and Itohowo Christopher Uko.

A search of their hideout led to the recovery of one locally made short gun, seven live cartridges, a fresh human skull, a bottle containing a substance suspected to be black oil, and another bottle of Guyanese oil, believed to be for ritual purposes.

DSP John said investigations are ongoing and assured that efforts are being intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the gang and recover more
