Richard Sendy: Replicating Gov Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda at the Grassroot
It was South African freedom fighter and former President, Nelson Mandela that said, “A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones.” It is an established fact that the real essence of governance is the ability to put people at the center of development process.
Since his appointment as the Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroot Mobilization, Mr. Richard Sendy, has determined to use his vantage position to touch the lives of his people positively, replicating at his immediate constituency of Eket Local Government Area what Governor Umo Eno is doing for the people of Akwa Ibom State.
Like the Governor, Sendy, who is a grassroot mobilizer, is more concerned about touching the lives of the vulnerable in the society. Just few weeks ago, he constructed a caravan shop at Urua Nka Market, equipped with a grinding machine for a visually impaired man, Mr. Ette David Odungide, as a way of empowering him to become self reliant and financially independent. During the commissioning of the caravan by Eket Council Chairman, Mkpisong Akaniyene Tommey, represented by the Leader Eket Legislative Council, Hon. Mrs Joy Richard Ekanem, Mr. Sendy also empowered 15 women with N50,000 each as financial support to boost their businesses.
In education, Mr. Sendy has given scholarships to pupils of two different schools within Okon geopolitical zone in Eket Local Government Area, while 5 pupils of God’s First Academy, Nduo Eduo and 10 Pupils of Essential Schools, Ikot Nsidibe, were also beneficiaries of the scholarship. He also donated writing materials to 5 schools to support the education policy of Governor Umo Eno led administration.
In the health sector, Richard Sendy donated a wheel chair to a crippled person to leverage his mobility challenges.
Last month, when his attention was drawn to the issue of defilement of an underage school girl at Ikot Abia, he didn’t hesitate to support the girl financially to continue with her medical services.
He was able to achieve all these through the support of his dear wife, Thelma Sendy, while his friend, Hon. John Otu, also helped to facilitate some of the programmes he embarked on.
While some government appointees are complaining of not being funded by the government, Mr. Richard Sendy is following the footsteps of his boss, Governor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD.
As a grassroot mobilizer, his gesture to replicate what his boss is doing at the State will endear many people to the Governor, especially during 2027 general elections. His influence among youths in Eket Local Government Area is highly commendable.
Indeed, Sendy is a true ambassador of the ARISE Agenda administration, as his gesture to impact lives positively is not only laudable but will serve as a political capital for the re-election of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno for second term in 2027 general elections. He deserves to be encouraged and supported.
