Senator Eyakenyi Charges Wives of Local Government Chairman on Peace, Loyalty

Advocates the involvement of Women In Agriculture

The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator(Dr) Akon Eyakenyi has charged Wives of Local Government Chairmen to be instruments of peace, both in their homes and the society.

The Deputy Governor gave the charge, Friday when members of the Wives of All Local Government Association Of Nigeria (WALGON) visited her in the Deputy Governor’s Lodge, Government House, Uyo.

Senator Eyakenyi appreciated the President of WALGON, Mrs Akaninyene Udo for keeping members of the Association united, noting that ensuring the spirit of togetherness is the greatest feat she has achieved.

The Deputy Governor reminded them of the place of God in the quest for success, urging them to allow God to direct their destiny and the office entrusted to them..

She charged them to be fair and God fearing, stating that if they fear God, they will do unto others as unto Him in the discharge of their duties.

She particularly emphasized the need for humility, charging them to respect and support their husbands.

“When you’re able to give your husbands respect, no matter the situation, you humble yourself and extend that respect to the people of the Local Government Area.”

The Deputy Governor advised them to make an impact and play their part in mobilizing the women, children, youths and men, as the First Ladies of their respective Local Government Areas.

“I want you to note that you are the eye and representatives of the Governor at the Local Government Areas. How you relate with people in the grassroots matters and by doing this, you give your husband a good image and by extension, the State.”

Senator Eyakenyi stressed that women should be actively involved in agriculture in order to have enough food to feed their families while making extra income for themselves.

Commenting on the disposition of the current administration towards women, she noted that the Governor recognizes the role and efforts of women, urging them to take advantage of the opportunities created for them by the administration.

“Akwa Ibom State has fulfilled the 35% affirmative action. From appointments to elective positions, you have women. His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno understands and recognizes the role of women.

“I encourage you to take advantage of the current and emerging opportunities while grooming younger women for future positions.” She charged.

Speaking earlier, the President of the Association and wife of Uyo Local Government Chairman, Mrs Akaninyene Uwemedimo Udo said the meeting was conceived to strengthen the existing cordial relationship with the Deputy Governor and reinforce synergy for the benefit of the State.

She commended the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for his visionary leadership and for giving them opportunities to thrive in their Local Government Areas, saying his style of leadership has brought progress to the State.

Mrs Udo pledged the loyalty of WALGON to the Governor Eno led government, promising to assist in replicating the ARISE Agenda at the grassroots.

The Uyo First Lady described Senator Eyakenyi as a role model for women and a peaceful leader who has contributed to bringing stability to the State.

The event featured the presentation of a souvenir to the Deputy Governor by the President of WALGON.
