Your win lifted our spirit, Gov Eno congratulates Super Falcons

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has joined President Bola Tinubu, Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and other Nigerians in congratulating the Super Falcons on their historic triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where they clinched the title for a record 10th time after an impressive comeback win against Morocco.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, the governor stated this during a chat with top government functionaries and members of his state executive council.

Eno described the Falcons’ victory as a proud moment for every Nigerian and a true reflection of the strength, determination, and resilience of Nigerian women in sports.

“We were so sad and taken aback when the girls were down 0-2 in the first half, but with strength and determination, they fought back and lifted the spirit of the land in the second half.

As the women applauded and cheered His Excellency’s delivery, for once, even the men in the room were forced to agree that the “women deserved all the accolades for such spirited performance which showcased the can do ability of the Nigerian women,” the governor said.

The football friendly Governor of the year 2025 also used the occasion to charge the men national team, the Super Eagles to sustain the tempo and follow the example of the Falcons by going to Morocco to clinch the upcoming African Nations Cup.

The win marks Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title, extending their record as the most successful team in the tournament’s history.

The girls and officials are expected back in Nigeria to a rousing state reception by the President who despatched a strong delegation to Morocco to cheer the girls to victory.
