‘I am Returning to Music with a Unique Message’ – Singer Godslove Abasi Speaks on Reviving Career
The journey to fame especially in the NIgerian music industry doesn’t come on a platter of gold. From high cost of music recordings, to cost of dressing well, connections to record labels and all. This has left many artistes at the crossroads between having brilliant songs with good lyrics and crossing over to stardom.
The story of Godslove Abasi paints a picture of an ambition driven by passion Born the third in a family of six from Nung Udoe Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, Akwa Ibom State, the singer made a debut years ago but went behind the stage due to some factors around marriage and all. According to her, experiences over the years have shaped her view of life and survival.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with CENTRE STAGE, Godslove spoke about her journey into music, career influence and more.
”I started music at age 8 and professionally at age 17 which is 2005 when I finished secondary school and my first stage in Eket where I started as a rapper. Since then, I have been writing numerous songs close to 500 songs and 50 books and I have published 3 books already. I have about 15 tracks all single but not yet promoted
“My inspiration in the industry was Miriam Mekeba and African leaders who do well. My growing up was difficult, and my challenges were finance to push my career. You know any vision without provision remains a television”
She also spoke about her writing passion:
”I derive so much pleasure in writing and public speaking. First, I write as a means of therapy and as a form of blessing to humanity. For the past years I have been writing for free on social media, internet and free publications. Writing inspires me and breeds great confidence in me. I write down virtually everything.
”I also use my writing and speaking to capture important events and occurrence in my life. This way am able to situate events and keep records of important happening in my life.
The singer who is a member of the Performing Musician Association of Nigeria (PMAN ) and the Actors Guild of Nigeria spoke on her view about the current industry and says she is not threatened as every voice has a peculiar message to pass.
”I am not threatened by the current crop of musicians making waves or the fear of not being accepted. I know that every singer or musician has a peculiar story to tell in his or her creative work. I have a style and a message and i know my my fans will accept my message and give me audience”, she added with a smile.
The singer who is passionate about unifying Nigerian tribes and languages in her songs said she is back to add value to a new Nigeria through her songs.
