Akwa Ibom Unveils Medical City Project June 23

The Akwa Ibom State Government will officially unveil the Ibom Medical City Project, including a 350-bed International Hospital and ancillary pharmaceutical and laboratory plants, on June 23, 2026.

The Executive Council, at its meeting on Wednesday, June 17, received a briefing on the project from the Commissioner for Health and applauded the initiative, urging Akwa Ibom people to take advantage of the opportunities it will provide.

According to the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Dr. Aniekan Umanah, the meeting, presided over by Governor Umo Eno at the Executive Council Chambers, Uyo, also ratified key Finance and General Purpose Committee memoranda.

These include the delivery of CNG buses that have arrived at the Lagos Seaport, construction of the Passenger Terminal at the CNG Mega Station in Ikot Akpan/Obio Offot, Uyo LGA, and the recapitalization of Anchor Insurance Ltd.

In other resolutions, the Council directed the Ministry of Aviation and Airport Development to submit a comprehensive work plan, budget proposals, management plan, revenue projections, and growth strategies following a presentation by the Special Adviser on its core mandate.

To fast-track the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission, the Council directed the immediate provision of take-off facilities and the development of a work plan and budget, with an 18-month target for delivering efficient and reliable power supply across the state.

The Council also scheduled the fourth phase of free food distribution to vulnerable persons on the State’s Social Register to commence before the end of June, covering all 31 Local Government Areas.

The report was presented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and the Bulk Purchase Agency, Princess Emem Ibanga.

The Council also commended the Speaker and Members for commencing public hearings on the Twelve Executive Bills transmitted to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Additionally, the Council commended Akwa Ibom people for the peaceful conduct of party primaries that produced President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno as APC flag bearers in their respective elections.

It urged eligible citizens to participate in voter registration.

Earlier in his opening remarks, Governor Eno thanked God for the successful primaries and charged EXCO members to remain diligent in delivering on the ARISE Agenda.

He also welcomed the newly appointed Special Adviser on Aviation and Airport Development to the Council.
